Fellow Lionfish Eliminators, on the weekend of Easter, Saturday March 30th and Sunday March 31st, Curacao will be holding its 2nd annual lionfish derby. Our event is organized by Ocean Encounters (www.oceanencounters.com), The Original Zookeeper (Zookeeper "Lionfish Containment Unit" | Facebook) and Lionfish Elimination Team (http://www.facebook.com/LionfishEliminationTeam ).

We are holding this event in order to create awareness and increase education about the lionfish epidemic that we are all facing, not to mention, to clean our reefs and create culinary demand! Among the many things we are doing is having talks, inviting marine biologists, reef conservationists, and giving away free cooked lionfish to anyone that wants to try some. However, we are only one island of many facing this problem.

We would invite you to share this invitation and hold similar derbies in your own locations on these two days. Our hope is that this weekend once a year will grow to be so large that our efforts to create awareness will garner media attention that will help with the resources and assistance that we all need to protect out reefs. If we all join together we hope to remove thousands of lionfish from our waters over these two days!

Please consider organizing your own event, and provide status updates at http://www.facebook.com/groups/435748023109144/?ref=ts&fref=ts

Even if you are unable to organize an event please consider sharing and liking this post to any organization or person whose influence might help raise awareness about this problem.

Of course, remember as you are organizing that diver safety and marine conservation are our highest priorities!

Thank you from Ocean Encounters, LET Divers, and Zookeeper!
