Anyone want to recommend any good dive shops in both Coron and Malapascua?
I was looking at Discovery Divers in Coron, but haven't really found any recommendations at all for Malapascua.

Thanks!

Without doubt, by far, Evolution diving in Malapascua. David and Matt run a top notch very professional, fantastic dive shop, small hotel, and a fantastic bar/restaurant. The people that work at Evolution are incredible, and really you will not find a best ran shop almost anywhere in the world.

You won´t go wrong with them.

Evolution - I second that. When I was there they were building the bar/restaurant but based on just diving with them I would say they are top drawer.

I stayed with Seadive in Coron. Roll out of bed straight into the boat, great day out good food cooked up between dives. Restaurant good there as well. A few years ago now so you might have to have a look when you get there and decide.

Thanks guys. Guess i'll be contacting Evolution!

I've got another strange question - if you had the choice, would you take a DIN or Yoke reg? Are convertible tanks common in the Phillipines, or will I forever be using an adapter?

Cheers!

Rock Steady Divers in Coron would be my recommendation if you want to stay in Coron town, although the main advice I'd have would be to avoid Sea Dive - the dive operation that is, the hotel and restaurant are fine :)

Malapascua would be Evolution

You will find some DIN in the phillipines, but will probably be using the adapter a lot. I wouldn´t travel without the DIN to Yoke adapter.

Yeah thanks, i was considering putting a yoke on my travel 1st stage (permanent one) to make life easier.

Both Evolution and Rock Steady should have plenty of DIN tanks so you'd have no problems at either, other operators will normally have some DIN but mainly yoke - that said I don't know of any operators who wouldn't have their own DIN to yoke converters available for use so I'd stick with DIN :)

I agree with those who recommended Evolution for Malapascua. Very professionally-run dive center with nice staff and owners, and by reputation they tend to attract an interesting mix of discriminating and often quite experienced divers. In my two weeks on the island, I enjoyed meeting some newly-certified and eager open water divers as well as a number of other scuba instructors and other technical divers, many of whom spent their evenings editing some amazing photos while hanging out around the Craic House bar/restaurant.

For Coron, I went with Rags II (a liveaboard) and highly recommend them. Absolutely first-rate service on a comfortable liveaboard with nice folks and gourmet cuisine, all at a reasonable enough price (as liveaboards go). Can support technical or recreational diving, or even both at the same time. Because it's a liveaboard, Rags 2 can put you on the wrecks before or after or between all the land-based dive centers and thus try to avoid the crowds, and if you're all doing non-tech diving then you can probably fit in 3 dives per day plus a night dive if desired. Our trip stopped at Apo Reef for a couple days of diving with sharks and turtles etc. at the remote marine park, and Apo Reef was great (sort of Tubbataha Lite) but I wish we had spent the whole trip at Coron, which was fantastic if you like wrecks. Can't wait to go back.
