While diving the Casino Point water park last thursday (6/13/2013) I came across a little "memorial", a pile of rocks with a little replica of a row boat, and a picture of a man in the middle. It was resting not too far from the Cousteau memorial in around 20-25 ft of water. It looked very carefully constructed. Unfortunately I did not have a camera to take a picture, and did not want to touch it for obvious reasons. It appeared to be a memorial to the person depicted.

Has anybody seen this and know more about this little memorial? The resident Catalina expert Dr. Bill was stumped. So I am guessing it is new...

We saw it the previous Sunday and it looked very new. No idea who it is for.

Had an early morning meeting about the dive park, and hope to finally get out there later today (when the tide is rising) to check this out and get some pix.

Got in a 68 min dive in the park yesterday and had no trouble locating this small memorial thanks to your directions. Here are two frame grabs from the video I shot. Gary Garibaldi seems to be confused as well by the new memorial.

Nice! Thank you for posting the pics. Hopefully now we can get some input on the commemoration.
And sorry for the extra motivation to get into the "cold" waters of Casino Point. Personally I found it pretty warm last Thursday.

Actually temperature wise it was fine (but compared to 84-88 F bottom temps in the Philippines it was a bit chilly). Reports of yet another sighting of a turtle, probably a green, in the dive park yesterday but it (and the giant sea bass) avoided me.

The giant sea bass has been a "legend" to me for a while. I have been diving the park for two years and finally caught a glimpse of one last summer but I followed one last Thursday for a little while around the sunken platform at the water park. Is that where you typically see them? The two sightings I had were around the same spot.
