For the past 2 weekends, water off Redondo Beach and the west side of PV has been dominated by phytoplankton. However, it's nice to see that small fish and nudis are relatively abundant.

The large, resident moray eels are back at Haggarty's crane.

This little navanax crawled from the kelp onto Phil's dry glove while we were on our safety stop.

On this encounter, two Hermissendas briefly touched rhinophores.

I love the first photo with the eel, crab and shrimps all together like that.

That navanax is small. I don't think I've ever seen one that small.

Is that middle photo a Rosy Rockfish?

It's a honeycomb rockfish, Sebastes umbrosus, referring to the honeycomb pattern of scales below the lateral line. This was a skittish youngster, which would only face forward when safely behind a gorgonian. I like its blue eye. :)

Sorry, I should have labeled these!
