Did 2 dives at the park. The coastal fog/clouds parted as we approached Catalina and we were entertained by a small pod of leaping dolphins. Once in the water, the viz was a disappointment...milky and particulate laden in many places. Had to make my way mostly by depth and feel to su jac. Some places in kelp at 20-30 were better. Also, very surgy for the park. Warm 70ish water near surface changed to very cold below 40 foot thermocline..I should have wore my hood ! However, my dive buddies saw and videoed a large GSB swimming by me that I never noticed! The abalone population has really made a come back. Saw the usual suspects and had a great day but Fall diving at Catalina has spoiled me.

Yep, surge has been pretty "bad" (at least for filming) lately. I haven't dived since Tuesday because of it. Unless it is fairly clear, I always find the best way for me to get to the Suejac is to move at 70' depth just outside the kelp beds and that way even if I can't see it, I'll bump my head on the hull
