Hello,
I'm planning a one week trip in late January and would love to hear diver feedback on the diving options at different resorts.
We are AOW certified, ~40 dives, looking for big creatures.
I think I've narrowed it down to Mirihi, Maafushi Varu, Anantara or Gangehi. Mirihi seems to get the best reviews but is also significantly more expensive than the others.
Maafushi Varu looks great but I haven't been able to find much about the diving sites around there.
Is it worth it to splurge for Mirihi or are the others almost as good?
Thanks so much!

I cannot comment on the others but Mirihi is an excellent, small resort which is nicely located in the South Ari for whale sharks and mantas reachable by normal dhoni (boat). I would also contact them in advance regarding the whaleshark trip- this would normally be a full-day affair.

For diving, consider Maayafushi in the North Ari as well. No real access to the whalesharks in the south, but excellent diving nearby and should be a good deal cheaper than Mirihi at that time of year. Maayafushi is usually full of Italians and can be quite lively compared with other 'honeymoon' resorts- but this all depends on the guests there at the time.
