So this year we were approached to sell our lionfish(legally and permitted)midway thru the season. We were skeptical of harvesting and handling them on a commercial basis. We have been stung quite a few times but have developed methods to help cut downon stings while allowing us to pursue them and other species.
We harvested in NC,SC and GA and hope to expand to Fl.We try to concentate on larger specimens and averaged 1.7 pounds per fish. Our fish are served locally and due to our locale are almost 100% certain to be ciguaterra free due to none being this far north.
We hope to get a full year on them next year and at least in a few areas curtail their expansion, stay tuned.
