FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan. 29, 2014 - SAN DIEGO -- Highlighting its commitment to diver safety, scuba diving organization Power Scuba (a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation) is teaming up with the San Diego Lifeguards and the charter boat M/V Horizon this Sunday, February 2nd, to conduct an in-water emergency and rescue simulation off the coast of Point Loma. The intent of this simulation is to refresh diver rescue skills and expose participants to various types of diving emergencies, as well as to educate divers on how they can assist in such emergencies or even prevent accidents from occurring.

This will be the third such safety education event Power Scuba has hosted. Rescue professionals and laypersons alike have praised Power Scuba’s previous events of this type for increasing diving safety awareness among the diving community.

“The point [of this simulation] will be to make it as real as is safely possible,” advises Power Scuba President Bill Powers. Past emergency simulations have included surfacing an unconscious diver, recovering the “victim” onto the boat, and administering CPR and emergency oxygen until lifeguard assistance arrives. Following the simulation, the 35 participants will engage in a discussion and debrief with the lifeguards, allowing for a question/answer session and an evaluation of the group’s emergency management skills.

Power Scuba takes an active role in promoting continuing education among the San Diego scuba diving community. Many accidents are preventable, and Power Scuba advocates that divers take personal responsibility for their own safety by adhering to diving best practices and educating themselves on self-rescue techniques. To best respond to diving accidents, Power Scuba recommends all divers invest in training up through the Rescue Diver certification so that they are better prepared to assist in an emergency.

Power Scuba is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to ocean stewardship and the preservation of our underwater environment. Comprised primarily of scuba divers, Power Scuba will educate the community, through outreach and programs, about the local underwater ecosystem which desperately needs our help. The corporation will provide a means by which divers can be more active in scuba activities while they also become attuned to the plight the ocean currently faces. Certified divers and the general public can learn more about Power Scuba’s mission and events by visiting Power Scuba: San Diego Scuba Diving (and Beyond) (La Jolla, CA) - Meetup.
