Just under 10 dives so far, all being shore dives. I've grown some interest in Kayak diving in Southern California. I watched a YouTube video of a guy that solo dives for lobster out here. I have two cousins that I dive with, who are willing to follow suit with kayaks. My question is, obviously without giving away your secret hunting or dive spots, Where are some good places to kayak dive? Launch locations? Not too deep though. Anywhere around Redondo/PV to Laguna/Dana Point is the areas I prefer. For those that do kayak or boat dive, how do you tell if there's more then just sand as well as the depth below
you. Looking to get prepared for next lobster season.

I've talked to some people who kayak dive around Malibu. Anywhere you would beach dive that has access for launching a kayak would work, like many of the public access gates or parks like Leo Carrillo. Look straight down from the surface to get an idea of the bottom.

Talk to George, the owner at Clout Rideshop in Malibu - https://www.facebook.com/cloutrideshopmalibu He probably kayak dives more than anyone else I know

The only kayak dive I did was in Maui. There was a pod of humpbacks around us for about an hour. I can't remember anything about the dive

My kayak carries a small Humminbird sonar unit and gps. I know exactly where and what I am over.
