I well understand the current 30M limitation in place but had heard that discussions were underway to have tec diving 'legalized' in the Maldives. Currently, it seems only a few live aboards even mention tec. Any up to date news on the state of affairs?

is what prevails on almost every resorts and liveboards at the moment (I left the Maldives in December 2013, after 3 years living overthere).

There was a discussion about technical diving last year at some diving and tourism kind of conference, that's all I know about it for now...
Some operators may allow it though, and I have no idea how they deal with the authorities about it, and how insurances will cover in case of problem (including divers insurance)...
But for the moment, tech diving is not a widely available option in the Maldives.
