Anyone interested in going to Beneath The Sea March 26-28? I am the Director (well, one of them) for the show, and might be able to get you free passes if you just want to look at the show. Workshops and Seminars will cost you extra, but they are well worth it! Check out the schedule on www.beneaththesea.org

Also, they are always looking for volunteers to help out with running the show. that's a lot of fun and very rewarding, but also a lot of work; if you're interested, http://www.beneaththesea.org/v2/volunteer.html.

I have bad news and good news... I can't get you free tickets.. theer are none made for this year's show (unlike the last one where we could give away free VIP passes)... but, the good news is that I can get you a few discount tickets for showfloor and workshops/seminars... that's a great deal, and the workshops/seminars are usually awesome! (check out the listing on the BTS website).. Also, the Gala "Fish and Famous" event is really good too, but it's an upscale black Tie event and could get expensive... however, you can meet really cool famous people in the industry there. I'll let you know more info as it becomes available.

If you have any diving related books (The Last Dive, Deep Descents, etc.) make sure to bring them along. Many times you'll find the authors at a booth or just walking arouind. They're usually pretty good about autographing their books for you.

I'll be there at least one day, maybe both. Ingreevox is planning on going too. We may have some of our non-diving friends, who are BIG-talkers, come with us to try the "Discover SCUBA" thing.

Last year Bernie Chowdhury had a booth. My buddy bought the book and got it autographed there.

If you order season passes for Dutch, I've heard they'll be taking the picures at the show, too!

Maybe we should figure out a time and all meet right up front. I have the BIG sign TTSkipper made for the aquarium trip, I can bring, or if we have any of the WV gear ready by then, I'll make sure I'm wearing a WV hat or T-shirt. Do we want to meet before the show, or after for dinner?

Hi Vadim,

Hopefully we will also have Terkel at the show to show off his lights and new scooter, we will also have a few other surprises one of them being a very slick spring strap.

Also, for the Terkel light, do you have any user guide if there is one... I want to know focusing tips and battery charging procedures... And by the way, thanks for the Light! it's awesome!

Is this a good place to buy tanks and wetsuits? Thanks

Abyssimal used to sell tanks at the end of the show, but I don;t think they do it anymore... Legally, Exhibitors are not allowed to sell BCs, Regulators, tanks or any other life support systems at the show.

if somebody does sell tanks at the show, you wil get them without a fill and without an inspection, hence an additional cost for you to do all those things when you get back to your LDS... I suggest just getting tanks at your local shop. period. As far as suits,.. I have no idea.. but I would say why not, especially if they can measure you and give you and order you a custom suit on a spot for a price of regular suit that you would otehrwise get your LDS. Many large manufactures (DUI, Henderson, etc) never sell anything at the show.

Reef Scuba seems to have a lot of people at their booth. It's nice to be able to stock up on D-Rings and Triglides. Plus, you can buy #24 line by the pound! :)

Capt. Dan Berg has Wreck Valley books, videos, etc. in his booth.

And there are other vendors that sell artwork, books, t-shirts, magazine subscriptions, etc. You never know what you'll find.

Plus, the door prizes are pretty good - if you can ever get the prize supplier to shell out... I won a rebreather experience from &^!@#&$ (self edit) a few years ago and I still haven't done it. I even remind him about it every time I see him :)

Mostly, it's just a consumer version of DEMA. You get to see some neat stuff that your LDS might not sell, or even meet some 'famous' people. A couple of years ago, Stan Waterman was there autographing posters in exchange for a donation to the Shark Research Institute. All in all, it's a fun time and a nice road trip.

I tell ya' what. I'm going to be there on Saturday. If WV people want to meet for a group picture or something (out front maybe), PM me. I'll do what I can to get a list together and start a new thread for it with details. It seems that I've been setting up a lot of scuba groups lately for classes and trips, so what the heck - we'll see what I can do with this :)

There will be Silent Auctions going on at the Ocean Pal's booth, sometimes they have good stuff that you can get cheap (like OMS doubles or underwater cameras, etc)... Also, Beneath The Sea's "Fish and Famous" event will have a silent auction, but those are "black tie" affairs, and the auctions will feature livaboard trips to various exotic locations if that's right up your alley and your pocket.

We should do a BIG group shot. I'll bring that WV sign both days. As I said earlier right in front would probably be the best place to meet.

I'll have my camera both days too. I have to stop by and give Ikelite SHlT for still not having their housing done!

I'll make sure I actually get some people in the shots this time!

Jen and I will be there Saturday, and will also bring a digital camera. It appears that the show starts at 8AM, and we'll probably show up around 7:30. I go to trade shows all the time for my job, and would advise everyone to show up early. Usually by noon you can barely fight your way down the isles, and getting to the more popular booths gets close to impossible.

I'll try to get there kind of early too. Scott, are you doing the digital photo thing?

Hey VT is it too late to get the discounted prices? I just noticed the order form I have says to mail by the 12-31-03.

I want to get the ticket for all exibits and seminars for both days and probably the digital photo workshop. You guys really need to set up an order from on the bts web site. I would have ordered my tickets months ago if I could have online.

Hi guys/gals. I am new to this forum. I will be at the show for entire weekend. I volunteer at the Long Island Divers Association booth. I should be at that booth most of the weekend.
In addition, a friend and part owner of Long Island Scuba indicated he may be sharing some space w/ Berger Bros Cameras and if it happens I might spend some time over there also.

Stop in and say Hello at LIDA.

Does anyone know how much tickets are going for at the door? It is not a huge deal, but I just want an idea of how much 3 tickets is going to cost me on Saturday. Darn, I really want to do the photo class, but it may be a bit much to ask my family to wait 7 hours for me to take the class :zap1: lol

There is a "Digital Imaging" class on Saturday then a "Digital Cameras" class on Sunday and a "Digital Photography" class on Sunday too.

Does anyone know what the differences are?

I assume if you go in the order I listed them above:
1- software, retouching, color adjusting, etc.
2- all about digital hardware
3- photo techniques

Cafe Press told me they usually take about 7 days to order, so if you order in the next few days, you should be able to get them in time for BTS. If you don't want to take a chance rush deliver should take about 3 days.

Also I should have more stuff up later tonight or tomorrow. Hats, stickers, and in light of the current weather...sweatshirts!

what a zoo it was. as i feared i did not make it in time for our 8:30 gathering. when i arrived at 10:30 the place was packed. unfortunately i did not see any wreckers. stocked up on miscellaneous items at reef scuba. it was nice to see all the gear although most of it was nothing new. however, terkel was at the techblue booth and he showed his brand new fin straps which are hands-down the niftiest design there is. i was very tempted to throw mine away and get them. in the end i held back after having already spent a small fortune on numerous magazine subscriptions (incl. a new scuba travel mag on DVD with great footage). otherwise, i really liked the new diving concepts Z series suit. it comes in all cordura, looks extremely well made and durable and retails in stock sizes for $1200 with front entry and telescoping torso. too bad i already got two drysuits. i hope they'll develop irreparable leaks in the near future.

Martin- That's hysterical! We must have been circling each other all morning :D

I did, and looked at all the same stuff. Stocked up at Reef Scuba too. I got a big spool of #24 nylon line and a bunch of SS bolt snaps and bungie. You should have got there earlier. I got to talk with the author of Deep Descent, and all the mfgr. reps were showing me new products and letting me try stuff on. A few hours later, you couldn't even get to some of the popular booths.

I also suscribed to ADM and the new one with the CD-Rom enclosed. It was on the table right before you got into the main room. We also joined LIDA (long Island Divers Association), which I've been meaning to do for some time.

I'm glad you had a good time, and we'll get to hook up again soon anyway. Dive season's a comin!!!!

Yeah we must have been at that Reef Scuba booth for nearly an hour!!!

That new Halcyon light was pretty nice too. The one that's in Rodales this month, with the fixed beam. But I'll wait and see how Scott's home made job comes out first.

Also tried out some of the DUI dry gloves, maybe next season when it gets cold again.

Saw the housing for the other Canon, not the one I have.

And saw a pretty nice new computer from Oceanic. Not actually on display, but the rep had one and on. Small wrist mount, hoseless air integrated, gas switching with up to 3 transmitters. Very cool!

Terkel and Chris (at Tech-Blue) are really cool peoples. I did buy Terkel's spring straps! I liked the fact that they are so much softer than myManta straps, and they have the cave line inside to prevent overstretching - nice touch. I got the ones with the clear tube on it, and he said I will be one of a few people with the clear ones since his current production is all black now.

Have you guys check out his light can? I got mine back in December, and Terkel told me I am actually the first one on the east coast to have one. The light is awesome! I also just retuned from SoCal, and everybody on the boat was checking out my light!

you can see my SoCal pics in the gallery section (http://gallery.wreckvalley.com/Travel).

Scott, you still have a chance to get a full tour of all hyper-baric chambers at the Westchester Medical Center and then some! They have a one day seminar that gained a huge popularity among the dive community in this area.

check out http://www.lifesupporttechnologies.com/ and register for DIVE DAY SEMINAR: Saturday April 24th ($25) and if you wish also Sunday, April 25th ($40 for both days)

I have personally attended it in the last two years, and I must say it is a must to for every diver.

here is what's covered:

Dive Day - Saturday, April 24, 2004
Diving Physiology, Safety, and Emergencies
- Dos and Don’ts for divers
- Diving Emergencies
- Development of Decompression Tables
- Oxygen for the Diver
- Gas Mixes
