Hi there,

I have some salt corrosion on the shutter spring of my S100 case (the spring that's inside the case). It's causing the shutter release to be very stiff. Is there any way i can detach the spring to clean off the corrosion? and how can i clean the corrosion?

Thanks!

You have more important problems to fix. The only way you get that kind of corrosion is if saltwater is weeping past the orings. Depending on the damage already done, at a minimum the gland has to come apart, be cleaned, new orings installed and lubricated. And there is a chance you will also need a new shaft, depending on how bad the corrosion damage is. Your housing is giving you fair warning that it is about to start leaking. Odds are, you (or Ikelite) really should so though the entire housing since it's likely other orings are getting close to causing problems as well. A few new orings and maybe a shaft are a lot less expensive than a new camera.

micy85,

Your housing needs a complete overhaul, check out and water pressure test. Send the housing to the Ikelite Service Dept., 50 West 33rd St., Indianapolis, IN 46208. Turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks from receipt. The Service Dept. will contact you with an estimate before performing any work.

Best Regards,

Brett Foster - Ikelite
