Looking for some pointers on how to rig up my Transpac for spearfishing. Post pics if you can. Want to know the best ways to have my fish stringed and gun attached as well as other gear. I am slinging a 30 pony as well and keep a sausage and 50lb lift bag on me. Went out yesterday for my first time and after shooting my first fish in the face took me at least 5 mins to uncluster my gear and get back to it. Thanks

Sounds like you're carrying a lot of gear. I keep a very streamlined setup... single steel cylinder, SS backplate, no extra weight, secondary reg on 40" hose under arm, air2/inflator.

And, where are you spearfishing? Reef, rigs, nearshore, openwater?

What kind of gun are you using? Reel or bungied shooting line? How big are the fish you are shooting?

Again, I dive with a minimal amount of "stuff"... less things to get wrapped up with a psycho fish.

I'm just trying to get a mental picture of what your hunting scenario looks like. Most of my spearing is around the Texas Gulf rigs, and usually amounts to one fish per drop... the sharks make sure of that. The rig structure presents a potential danger of the fish wrapping you around it, not fun.

There is no "one way" to set up for spearfishing. My only suggestion is to get rid of anything that dangles, or at least secure it tight to your body.

A couple other things I do... SPG clipped to my left waist (NO CONSOLE), I carry 2 line cutters (one on my waist, and one on a 1/8" bungie lanyard tucked in my right glove), sometimes I carry a "spike" knife (modified oyster knife) on my waist, and I usually wear full foot fins to eliminate that damn buckle snag area.

Good luck.

Newer spearfisherman like tec divers usually to have everything including the kitchen sink attached to them.
Experienced spearfisherman carry the bare minimum needed. Therefore limiting workload, weight, and increasing stalking ability.
Gun in hand. Stringer in other hand. Lift Bag on D ring. Done.

I primarily free-dive when spearfishing... if the fish are within 60 ft. As I get older, my breath hold isn't what it used to be, and there are bigger fish deeper down around the rigs.

So my methodology of spearing while blowing bubbles is simply one of simplicity.
