Hi,

Due to a stupid mistake of my own....., I am looking for someone who is willing to lend me for 3-5 minutes the Apeks Socket & Extension tool (the tool used for loosening the Yoke nuts of Apeks first stage regulator).......located in Toronto or surrounding.

Don't want to wait (and to a lesser extent, buy) the tool from US with the shipping time etc......

Thanks in advance........

you should be able to get it out with a thin 19mm wrench. Use the box side and it should be thin enough if it is 12 point. Hard to get a torque wrench on there obviously, but it works in a pinch. At some stores you can find a 19mm or 3/4" socket that is 12point that will fit. I have one, but it has to be 12pt otherwise the walls are too thick.

Thank you tbone1004 for the tips..... I tried with different combo with the tools I have (Mastercraft's socket set etc.) so far no luck, though the ones I used weren't 12 point I believe. Let me dig into it.

If I am understanding correctly you want to undo the bolt that holds the yoke on the first stage?

I have successfully used a big adjustable spanner that is big enough to go around the yoke and fit on the bolt. You align the yoke with the spanner/bolt so it doesn't interfere and the yoke just rotates with the spanner. It should be loose after half a turn at most. Ideally the reg should be held in wooden box preferably or soft jawed vice or similar to avoid marking.

Maybe I am misunderstanding.

Hope that is helpful.

Hi Blatter, this is exactly what I want to do. Thanks for the tip, though I don't have such a big/long spanner to go "around" the yoke and clamp the nut, nor I have a vice (marking will be quite easy without the vice I know...). Will see what tool I can get my hand on either a 12 point or a long clamp spanner.
