I believe I have discovered a new species of Sea Star. I plan on calling it the Shakasaurus Star!! It

This Purple Velvet Sea Star was at Five Caves on Maui today. They have become quite common along the south shore since around March of this year. They are beautiful animals and don't seem to do much. They move pretty slow and they are not usually seen eating anything.

Today, this one was busy sniffing out the water or something for at least ten minutes, maybe much longer. We passed it on the way out and then again quite a while later on as we returned to shore. It reminded me of either a cobra or a dinosaur and the diver with me agreed we should name it the Shakasaurus Sea Star! It was very brontosaurus-like in that it was long and lanky with the extended neck and "head".

Have a look at this video. Have any of you ever seen a Purple Velvet Sea Star do this before?
