I've been told that I can't get the Deep Diver cert in NJ, that I would have to travel to NC or further. What if a budget or time constraints don't allow me to travel, how can I get the training to 130'?

You can definitely get it in NJ. Call Blue Water Divers in Rochelle Park.
Not even close to true. You have lots of good dive shops in NJ to chose from for this training.
As well as a lot of good independent instructors.

I got my deep diver cert in NJ. This area is certainly not lacking in deep wrecks. Deep only gets you to 130' / 39M. you may have to move inshore to find something appropriate. I would suggest the Arundo: Scuba Diving - New Jersey & Long Island New York - dive Wreck Valley - Dive Sites - The Mud Hole Chart

Take the advice above and get your cert/training where you plan on diving, NOT somewhere else.

While I am not well versed in NJ diving myself one can reasonably assume that if you face north there is a rather large body of water to your right that is known to get deeper than 130'.
