Can anyone tell me please, how does Palau compare to the Maldives in August for big stuff ?

Palau is an amazing destination for many reasons: Some of the diving is excellent (Blue Corner, Ulong Channel) but it also has fascinating WWII wreck dives and island visits, Jellyfish Lake and Chandelier Caves. Very varied. Great for a week. There are some sights where in the right conditions you are in fish soup: sharks, tuna, big schools all around you as you relax on your reef hook. However there are not many sites like that and the biggest thing you see may be a grey reef shark or maybe a manta or 2 at German Channel.

Maldives is all about the diving. You are quite likely to see the likes of whale sharks and manta rays on a week's trip in the Maldives, plus a fair array of sharks. Purely from a diving point of view I would favour the Maldives. You will probably see more big stuff there, plus there is better macro life in the Maldives, even though the Maldives isn't really famed for that either.

Do both! :)

August is not the best month for the Maldives generally, unless you get a trip that goes to the Hanifaru area. It can still be good but November to May is the high season really. The same months are true for the better part of the year in Palau, as well. They are both year round destinations but you might want to think again about going to either in August.

Do both! :)

Kind of like asking whether you should date Adriana Lima or Kate Upton really. You are pretty lucky in either case.

Thanks for your input. I have dove Palau twice so I guess I should do the Maldives. It would probably be land based though and in August.
Does the Maldives beat RA ?
Thanks for your help ?
