It doesn't really sound like they were diving in the cave, sinc eit said they had a sleeping bag with them. Sounds more like they were dry caving and the cave got flooded, blocking their entrance. Also sounds like the O2 bottles aren't for diving, but rather to make sure O2 levels in the cave don't drop.

But I could just be reading it wrong.

yes Wendy, i read the story the same way you do. they are British military divers,
but they were conducting a dry cave exploration. they then got trapped by flooding.

sounds like they will be ok (one hopes). they are in contact with the surface (by radio, i assume) and in a dry place.

After re-reading it I wonder why in the heck the fact that they were divers even mentioned?

It's all over thedecostop.com guys. They're dry cavers. They weren't in any real danger, just bored. They do have cave diving experience, but it's not like American-style cave 'diving' - more like 'getting through water to get into next part of cave.' They often won't wear a bc or fins.

It's nothing they're not used to apparently. For whatever reason, the media picked up on this one in a big way, but this is hardly a big deal for them.
