Maybe it's a dumb question, or maybe that it's just way past my bedtime, but .... If you're that clueless at this point in the project, ..... shouldn't you be rethinking the entire endeavor!

Just the thought that crossed my mind as I read the post, seeing as how scooters interest me a bit.

Minn Kota's work well but have gone to composit shafts which are hard to work with.

Motorguide are a little stronger, cheaper and still have metal shafts which are easy to convert for DPV use.

Built them with both and like them both. Also the company will say they are good for 1atm (33'). Never had one fail at over 150'. Some DPV's are made using trolling motors to start with.

A DPV with 30-40# of thrust will give you around 3 mph. I'm building one now with 64# and a 2 hour run time.

Use gel wheelchair batteries which are roughly 33ah each. A 32# thrust trolling motor is roughly 32ah so you can see how that works out. Both the batteries and motors are easy to find.
