My name is CJ, I've 17 Dives in and am looking to dive almost any day after 4pm. I am new to the Kitchener/Cambridge/Watterloo Diving Community, but want to become an Instructor. So I really need more Dive time before July as I plan to take Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Nitrox, and Dan O2 course. So I've got my work cut out for me! I'm competent, so I've been told :slick: !
Anyways, I'm easy going, need enough warning so I can rent gear...for only a little while longer...getting my own stuff soon...but willing to put upwith rain :-)

Hi Melody. There are a few of us on here from that area. There's not too many places close to dive. I'd recommend you avoid Innerkip. Gulliver's Lake near African Lion Safari is our usual early season mid week haunt. Boogie711 and I (and maybe a couple of others) may be heading there Wed eve.
Exactly how much notice do you need?

thaks to all who have responded...why is innerkip to be avoided...I was told they sunk stuff just so we could go exploring?
I'm looking forward to the Wed. Dive...The amount of notice I need is based on time needed to rent gear. I am hoping to purchase some this w/e, but until then I'm stuck renting. Mid-week dives are great for me!
My w/e's are totally full this month..sigh...but June is looking better :-)
Thanks again all!

Innerkip should be avoided because while they may have sunk stuff, you may never see it again. It's a murky mess. You also should put peroxide in your ears after you get out of the water to avoid nasty ear infections. Not pleasant.

Short answer, farm runoff. They're down hill from fields of cattle.

CJ... the first thing you need to learn if you are going to become immersed in this sport is that WEEKENDS ARE FOR DIVING. (Unless of course you work weekends and dive mid week...)
So, ditch the appointments, family events, garden chores, SO (unless they dive...) and get out and dive!

Plus all the usual questions... When and where to dive, where to meet, etc.
Hope to hear from folks

Not only warm temps, but vis approaching 30 feet except where it had been kicked up. As good as it gets at Gullivers. Lots of fish around, not much else to see though.

No idea re: temp or vis. I'm told vis gets bad by early July. It was 30 to 40 feet in May when we were there with water temps in the mid 40's. Overall a great dive though. The old steam donkey engines and cars were quite interesting and the engines were surprizingly large once you got up close. Didn't expect the size from the photos i;ve seen (no divers etc for scale).
I'm told Windmill Quarry near by usually has decent vis this time of the year, no idea what's there to see.

We certified in Windmill and have dived there since. It's OK. A quick easy refresher. It's about 30' (I think) with some intentionally-sunk items like a small rowboat, a toilet, etc.
I'm asking about temps at Sherkston because we are tropical divers at heart and only have 3mm suits - need about 70F or higher for comfort. In another month we'll be OK in the Niagara River and Lake Erie (depending on depth), but always looking for nearby sites.

Windmill is warm now & the vis is good. Sherkston on the otherhand is down to about 3 feet of vis.The Niagara river is about 64 deg Fas is Chippawa Creek, both great drifts.Little busy on the weekends, but we can always arrange to escort a crew during the week any evening. Just like to meet new divers and help promote this area.We can also have charters arranged to most Ontario destinations.Just let us know. We aren't in the pocket of any dive shop, we just like to enjoy the wonders.

Thanks knives! I hope you'll be able to join us at least for one dive. So far it looks like head downriver Thursday, night dive possibly Thursday evening and more than likely Kingston area, then perhaps a dive or two morning Friday then Lake Simcoe Saturday, and from Saturday afternoon onwards even I'm not sure what'll be going on. Quite possibly a return to Kingston and perhaps even hop on a boat for Sunday morning. Then unfortunately I need to be returning to Toronto and The Daily Grind for monday.
