Hi everyone!
I am planning a trip out to HI in late July, which island has the best diving? Do you recommend traveling with your own gear or renting? Thanks!

Thanks for all of the info! Makaha Caverns sounds fun, I really want to get in some turtle dives. :bounce:

You want turtles...we got turtles...lol
In addition to Makaha there is a turtle cleaning station on the South shore that we regularly visit. Yesterday 4 turtles jus' gliding in and getting cleaned. Very cool.

The Best? Why, that would be the Big Island, of course :biggrin2:

Seriously, all kidding aside, there's good diving all over the Hawaiian Islands.
Kona is my "back yard", and there's good to great diving here. Turtles, lots of fish,
large pelagic encounters (mantas, whales, sharks...), clear water, lots of dive sites.

My vote also goes to the big isle.

For sheer number of dive sites, I think Maui has that one.

It depends what you're looking for...
