I needd to get some fins for my first class. What are good fins to get for some one who is planning on taking other classes as well. the guy at the dive shop recommanded jet fin ( or turbo I forget what he called them). what are good fins that will still usefull in higher classes. btw I plan on doing warm water w/ some cold diving

Fins are a very personal issue, what works well for others may not work well for you. To get an idea how varied opinions are, you can check out what people thought of the Volos.

Since you mentioned "first class" I am guessing that you haven't tried on many fins. If this is the case, you'll want to rent as many fins as possible. If you have a good LDS, then they will give you a pair of fins to try before you buy. Depending on the kicks you use, and what you want to do, some fins may work better for you. Read/search the board for general ideas, but try the fins before you buy.

I don't know fin limitations for higher classes, except for DIR-F. They require "rigid, non-split" fins. Of course, I'm not knowledgable of all other classes available, so others will chime in for sure.

Here's a recent thread on Jet Fins. Though I don't own a set, I have used some on 4 blue water dives, and they worked well for me. Very good mobility, and easy to frog kick.
