On our dive at El Matador last Sunday the kelp bass were covered with a white filmy substance. Any ideas as to what this is?

There are several skin problems that fish can have, fungal, bacterial, parasitic, or environmental. It's not great, no matter what it is, to see that on a fish. Did they seem healthy otherwise?
If they were in a fish tank, I'd advise you to do some water changes. :11ztongue
