Which of the current crop of digital cameras has the lowest shutter lag.
That delay between when you push the button and when the shutter snaps the shot is anoying and makes action photography imposable.

I want to buy a mid priced digital camera for use under water. I'm looking at the Canon A80 and a few others like it but what can people tell me about shutter lag?

Maybe I should just stick with a Nikonos II

Digital in general suffers from shutter lag. The digital SLRs have less lag but also cost a lot more. The best way around it is to do the half button depress and force the camera to focus first before shooting.
It means that the approach has to be different from film where you can just point and shoot. Instead you've got to anticipate the shot and hope for the best. If you get it wrong the time to save the image and refocus can mean your target has gone.

If you want a good comparison of digital cameras out there at the moment take a look at http://www.imaging-resource.com/CAMDB/compare_cameras.php
