Tomorrow, August 24th, is the 35th anniversary of my arrival at Arrow Point on Santa Catalina Island aboard the dive boat "Golden Doubloon." It is a day I celebrate each year as my "re-birth" day, for it was after I arrived on Catalina that my life and goals really started to come into focus.

So I thought it was appropriate to celebrate the day with something both appropriate and special. As many of you know, I never logged my dives from 1961 until June 30, 2000. Tomorrow I will dive logged dives #999 and 1,000 in Catalina's Casino Point Dive Park (since 2000).

I'm inviting all SB members to join me in the park about 1:30 (have to attend a funeral first). Pay careful attention. Female single divers should meet me at the 5-fathom contour, and male single divers should wait for me at the 50-fathom contour.

Afterwards, any of us that survive will be treated to the only dish I can cook and still retain friends... my infamous Thai green curry with shrimp and broccoli. After a few libations (sake, ouzo and fine Scotch all welcome although I won't refuse a good red wine or non-domestic beer), we will all go to the world famous Avalon Theatre in the Casino building to watch the "Bourne Supremacy" before returning to my humble castle and partying our hearts out (no diving the next day).

Look forward to seeing you all there... at least in spirit (or is it spirits?)!

Doc

AAAAARGH! I will be there in spirit, for sure, because in the flesh, I will be sitting at my freakin desk in freakin New Jersey not wearing one item of dive gear. sigh.

Well, good on you, Bill, here's to a happy anniversary, 1000th logged dive, and many, many more!

Happy ReBirthday!

Sue, you could wear a wrist mount computer or compass just to feel a diving connection. :D

Congratulations on your rebirth day AND on the 1000 logged dive. Thai green curry, now we are talking.... maybe I should just cook some myself and join you in spirit while eating :)

Maria

Congratulations Doc!

I'll be there in spirit and I hope you really enjoy your time at the 5 fathom contour!

That brings back memories. I used to dive off the Golden Doubloon. It was a slow boat, but it was always great. I remember that Eddie Tsukamura (sp?) used to make some great hamburgers!

Ah, would love to be there dr bill, but couldn't ya have been re-born on a weekend..

So does this make you a born again :11:

Have a great couple of dives... so what is the real dive number -- 5000?

Chris

Congratulations Dr. Bill! Sounds like a perfect rebirthday. Friends, diving, movie, thai cuisine and fine beverages. What more could you ask for?

Next time I'm in CA I've got to look up the infamous Dr. Bill from the SB. I was visiting a friend in Newport Beach this past June but didn't make it to Catalina as I hoped.

Have a great day tomorrow,

Mel

Happy re-birthday! I will definetley be there in spirit! Let us know how it goes!

Such a nice response from you all to a self-promoting piece of drivel from me! Why, I am so moved I may cry... tears remind me of being in salt water! And I certainly wish I were diving today instead of editing a paper.

Seriously, thanks to all of you for the nice wishes. Just take a moment about 3:00 PM PDT to take a swig from that flask you carry to work each day to make the grind bearable. I should be in the middle of dive 1,000 at that time... drinking a Catalina buffalo milk shortly thereafter.
