Gotta dive this weekend to make up for last weekend. No choice. Looks like Laugna has recovered (1-3 ft waves this morning, 15-20 ft. viserbility, water temp is 73 degrees???).

Who's up for it? Any time, any place. I'd like to try Shaw's since I've never been there before.

It's just too crazy to drive down to Shaw's on a weekend for me. If you're not down there by 6:30a-7a forget parking. The volume of divers with the OW classes make the vis in the archway almost 0 as well.

I'll pass on OC, but if anyone wants to do Palos Verde area let me know.

Roland

I'm tied up on Saturday, but an early trip on Sunday is a possibility. I'll know for sure in a day or two.

Roland, I'd be up for Palos Verdes this weekend. You thinking something like Malaga? My favorite beach, but I never dove there.

On a trip to the oil rigs on Sat. Then Casino Point on Sunday. That's 2 days in a row where I'll be out of my house by 5 am! What is this hobby doing to me?!?
It's a nice way to spend a Sat., though - sure beats working!

Jim, you'll like Malaga. Since you expressed an interest in learning the fishes, lookout for garibaldi, rock wrasse, blacksmith, painted greenlings, giant kelpfish, black perch, opaleye, senorita, sheephead, blackeye goby, and kelp bass.

The pictures of all those fish are here:

And if you are really lucky, you'll see the little rockfish blenny that I saw at malaga a few days ago, at the beginning of the reef in a little hole in the wall.

Look for octopus too.

Thanks Scott. The only thing about Malaga is the hike up and down the hill, and the rock entry. Is it as bad as it looks?

How can you spend so much time at that beach and never taken your tanks? The hike is nothing, it's a paved road for 90%. Good for your heart anyways.

Regarding entry, you don't have to enter over the rocks, the sand beach is just a few more yards away. You'll have to do a small swim to at least the drain by the clubhouse to get back into depth though.

If the waves are small/none I usually enter over the rock shore just to save a few steps, but I'll still usually exit at the beach. I wouldn't suggest you trying the rocks if there is any sort of wave action.

It's easy access, shallow and full of life...a must do. I'll probably do a dive or two on Saturday and Sunday. I'll let you know my weekend schedule on Friday. BTW, Veterans Park last night...huge VIS and WARM!

Jim,
Roland will do a great job making the entry/exit easy, you guys can go in/out at the beach. The surface swim is also easy, in calm waters, usually with schools of fish swimming below you. The paved road is easy to walk down, and if you get tired walking up, it's easy to sit down for a minute. Also, not a big deal, but I would try not to go at low tide.

Jim,
I'll be in Laguna on Sat morning and you welcome to join. I'm meeting up with a buddy at Laugna Sea Sports (the dive shop just above Shaws) at 8 AM. I've only got time for one in the AM...with the possibility to go back for a night dive.
Send a note if interested
Christopher
