Does anyone have any idea how crowded or difficult diving would be at Casino Point on a weekend during the Jazz Festival? Curious about amount of people, crowds and the like? Any info would be appreciated. Thanx for the help.

If you have not done so already, make boat and hotel reservations NOW! Other than than, it might not be so bad...dive and jazz crowds are not the same. Not that I don't like jazz...

Avalon will be crowded during the weekend and, like kelpmermaid said, it may be difficult to find lodging/boat reservations at this late date. The crowd at the marine park will be normal, with a few OW classes and lots of divers from the mainland. If you can get over there mid-week, you will have the place to yourselves.

Actually, it makes for really nice surface intervals, as the Casino is not exactly soundproof.

As a diving Jazz musician, that should make for a pretty cool weekend. When is it?

The Jazz Festival weekends tend not to be too busy at the Dive Park because hotel rooms and boats are often booked as has been pointed out. As Arnaud said, you get some great music during your surface intervals! The Dive Park itself has been slow much of this summer/fall compared to previous years. Yesterday there were just a few divers (several of them local) in the Park when I went there. There will be crowds ion town and probably more foot traffic around the Park due to Festival attendees, but if you can get here it should be a good time to dive. I'm heading down in an hour or two and will try to offer a report based on this weekend's experience.

Thanx Dr. Bill, a report would be greatly appreciated.

Just got back from the Park. There was a slightly larger crowd than I anticipated, but nothing too bad. Air fills seemed not to be a problem (many were renting tanks rather than using their personal ones). I couldn't hear much of the music this time unless I went over to the Casino Dock Cafe- they must have shut the seaward doors, or changed the speaker locations.

Vis was fairly good. People I trust reported as much as 70 ft in some areas of the Park. In my areas it was more like 40-50. A bit of surge and wave action but nothing really problematic. I'll be there again tomorrow as will Arnaud.
