So I'll be in SanDiego the week of Oct 9-16. I think Sunday the 10'th will be my only free time to dive.

I'm looking for suggestions as to where, both beach and boat. I don't mind driving a couple of hours in any direction.

Beach diving La Jolla shores and La Jolla cove is great. Right in SD. Check out the dive reports.
 
divebums.com is a great resource for San Diego diving. The La Jolla sites are good suggestions.

I have only been diving for a year, so I don't know all the sites, but I greatly enjoyed diving Los Coronados Islands if you decide to go on a boat dive.
