scubasam35 February 5th, 2001, 04:59 PM hi all, does anyone have any recommendations on a good dive reel? w/wo auto tensioner any reply helpful. Rick Murchison February 5th, 2001, 07:14 PM How do you intend to use it? That makes a big difference in which reel to get - or whether to get several. Rick Mario S Caner February 5th, 2001, 08:31 PM Regardless of the application the best reels on the market are Manta reels. Usually I tend to take a more relaxed approach when it comes to dive products. There are good ones, there are better ones and then there's the best ones. Manta takes that up another notch. I do have some connections there, let me know if you are interested. http://www.mantaind.com scubasam35 February 6th, 2001, 11:25 AM Mario, I will take your advice. Do you have an address for Manta? A web site will work also. My application will be either search and penetration. Here in the Great Lakes our viz is around 30 FT at it's best and Occasionaly down to 1-2 FT. Most of the wrecks within recreational limits. Diving has been flattened by ice or caved in. But some of the wrecks are fairly intact. Thanks for the advice on the reels and I will look for your reply again. SAM Mario S Caner February 6th, 2001, 01:18 PM Sam, the web page and address you need are included in my previous post. Have fun with your dives! Sea you in the deep blue Atomox February 6th, 2001, 07:06 PM I disagree on this, The best reels on the market are made by Extreme Exposure. No junk to loose or break or malfunction, minimal entanglement points, and designed for one-handed operation while holding your light. http://www.extreme-exposure.com/spools.shtml bio guy February 6th, 2001, 08:49 PM Haven't compared many reel companies, but I use Reef Scuba and am happy with it. http://www.reefscuba.com/reels.htm Rick Murchison February 6th, 2001, 09:55 PM I use mostly "Home Made" - but Dive Rite as well. Rick Atomox February 7th, 2001, 07:43 AM I had a reef scuba and lost it. It worked fine. I also have a couple of Dive Rite reels. But, I am very happy with the EE reel. Dive Rite has a new reel that has the same basic design as the EE which I have not tried. Brad Iguana Don February 8th, 2001, 10:19 PM Why do the manuf. use that cheap nylon lock down bolt? Not only that, they include a spare, they know it's going to break off. At depth or in a cave and the bolt snaps off, how are you going to get it out. I took mine out, after it snapped off in my dive box, found some stainless steel socket head cap screws and some press on nylon wing nuts and replaced the whole thing. ID Rick Murchison February 9th, 2001, 06:48 AM Great idea ID.. Thanks. I think I'll do that. Rick Iguana Don February 9th, 2001, 05:07 PM Rick, got the screws and press on wing caps from McMaster-Carr. If you want I can e-mail you the part numbers. ID Atomox February 9th, 2001, 07:36 PM I haven't tried this. I just use stainless thumb screws from Barnhill Bolt Brad Rick Murchison February 9th, 2001, 10:18 PM ID, Please do.. Thanks, Rick Iguana Don February 9th, 2001, 11:31 PM Rick, McMaster-Carr (630) 833-0300 http://www.mcmaster.com Plastic Press-Fit Thumb Screw Heads package of 50, price $26.39 per 100 Part # 94052A034 This is the same wing as is on the Dive Rite Screw.
