I'm hoping this is the right forum to post this....

I've got a Nikon Coolpix 5700 that I've had for almost 2 years now. It
was pretty much collecting dust, but now that I'm a diver I figured that
I could use it to snap some underwater pics. I've searched high and low,
but have yet to come across a housing for my camera. I know that there
is one for the 8700, and the cameras look almost identical, but I want to
be sure before I plunk down the cash. That being said, here are my questions:

1) Will the 8700 housing fit my 5700?

2) If not, is there a specific housing made for the 5700?

3) My 5700 is a decent camera, but it isn't a SLR, and the 'lag' can sometimes
be a pain. I see this only being exacerbated when I'm trying to take pictures of
aquatic life that don't sit as still as my children do (or don't sometimes

). Can someone advise of a SLR
underwater camera that is in a decent price range? High MP count isn't important
I just want some decent shots I can share with family and non-diving friends.

Thanks for the help!

When you go with an SLR vs a PNS, you're going to be spending many times more on housings and lenses. Many people get great results from PNS cameras, so you might want to look into those a little more..

Yeah I finally found the housing for my 5700. Over $700, not happening.

Maybe I'll just go with something like a Sealife DC300.
