I'm new to scuba. Tried it this past summer in Greece and loved it. Now I'm thinking of becoming certified. I'll be in Coconut Creek Florida in the spring, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a school/place to learn. Also would like to understand which certification is best to use overseas, or are they all accepted everywhere.

Any help you could give would be great.

Thanks
Steve

Welcome to the board!
I can't help you with Florida but I'm sure someone will.

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!

Coconut Creek is but 15 miles from Ft.Lauderdale. You'll have dozens to chose from, and all of them will be recognized around the world. Get to know our local members on the Florida dive club forum, as well as our New2Scuba forum.

Completing your Profile with location and seperately - your Dive Info will help in future diving discussions. You can use the Quick Links menu above for this. Sizing a photo for your profile or Avatar can be a challenge; I'm a fumbling amateur, but I get the job done, if you'd like any help?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message." :thumb:

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

I don't know of a place to recommend specifically, but I believe that all of the major agencies are recognized world wide.

Don't forget to fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically from your profile, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

No experience needed and it feels great!

Welcome, and unfortunately, I also cannot recommend any shops there, but I can suggest that you post this question in the Florida Conch Divers forum: Conch Divers

Any of the big organizations are recognized overseas (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.) so that shouldn't be an issue. Just try to get a good instructor. Good luck!

Most of the agencies maintain lists of shops/individuals that can help you. Try Here for NAUI's list.
