Today I went to Scubaquest ( the old Coral Reef Dive Shop ) and found that this was the last day they were doing business. It was quite a shock to find this out after just opening not to long ago.

With the closing of Divers Discount ( Sunrise ) in July and now Scubaquest, who will be next? How long the tourist business will take to recover from the hurricanes is any ones guess.

Just thought I'd pass the article along.

The link below explains what is happening in Palm Beach's dive industry.

Yea - Hugh who is a good friend of mine that worked there as an Instructor told me about that when I stopped by there on Thursday. Too bad - I always liked that shop. Tough times ahead......

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I know of at least three closings here in the Orlando area.

ScubaQuest is the LARGEST certifier for NAUI... if they are in trouble, that indicates HUGE trouble for the local dive business in Florida. I do believe that LDSes will have to turn more to dealing on the internet to survive. Can the make the change? We'll see.

I think the LDS'es could and would make the change quite easily. It's a matter of the industry allowing them to do it. I guess with more and more closures, the industry will have fewer outlets, and willl have to change their policies towards internet business. Come on, it's the 21st century....
