Hey everyone!

I mentioned that I was going to dive the Pompano dropoff at 8th St. on Saturday, so here is a little report. Well, it ended up being a very nice dive. My friend and I were gearing up and a group of divers were in the process of aborting their dive due to rough conditions and poor visibility. The first 50 ft. out were greenish and low vis but suddenly became quite nice as we approached the ledge. One of the first things we saw was a 7 ft. nurse shark among all of the other marine creatures. There are still lobsters there to be caught but are a little on the difficult side to find. I managed to swim away with 3 keepers.

Anyway, despite the recent hurricanes, visibility is improving and my shore diving schedule has resumed back to normal. Hope to see some of you out there soon!

Thanks for the report Nate.

Whew, thank God it's about time! Glad to hear somebody's getting back to normal after THIS season!

Where and what is the Pompano dropoff? My computer is screwed right now so I can't get maps. Thanks. Dave

Check out ScubaGuy62's write up in the "Insider" sticky post. He is describing 13th street so I think I was just a few streets north, but I think it is a similar dive. It is just south of Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach.

What is it? Basically a bunch of rocky ledges where fish and crustaceans hang out. It is quite shallow for a while and then drops off around 350 yds out (I think that is right). There are some flat areas of hundreds of red Gorgonias (I nicknamed it "Strawberry Fields").

evad,
8th street is 4 blocks north of S.E. 12th street, the site my post in "insider" speaks about. The area is not that disimilar, only that the walk from the car to the ocean is very, very long. This site is often dived off charter boats as the 2nd dive of a 2 tank trip, but, as Nathan mentioned, is doable from shore.

Thanks. I think I may have done it off a boat. I'll try it from shore next time.
