I'm starting a new thread for this so it won't get lost in the shuffle.

Before we left town, I made a couple of Dee-Rags out of some fabric I have been saving for something special. Beast got one and Walter got the other. I read where Walter wore his all day on a recent dive outing so he must have liked it!

I'm hoping it will appeal to everyone. It's bright, colorful and fun...just like those who will be wearing it! I have enough fabric for about 20-24 of them.

Now I need the approval of the Wreckmaniacs.

Since I can't post a photo here, CLICK HERE (http://www.scubadiving.com/members/memberimages/5797_1612_1.jpg) to see it.

The fabric look spectacular!

Just need the assurance from both Walter and "The Beast" that all those critters don't bite back. :D

I'll take one...

Looks great to me Dee....may want 2

The only improvement would be to have a "blank" panel where you would stamp/stencil (with the correct paint) "Wreckmania 2002".

Other than that, it looks great!

Wow! I love it. Very cool. Can Moms wear them too?

Oh BTW you don't need the blank panel, since the T shirts will say Wreckmania 2002 on them.

I thought about that, especially for the TSDT one. There's not really a reliable fabric paint that will stand up to the type of usage these things will get..wet, dry, wet, dry, etc. If someone knows of one, please let me know.

The cheapest price for embroidery was about $6-8 PER rag.

Natasha...You don't have to be a baldheaded man to wear one!

Walter

If you are a good looking woman you can wear them as an accessory. If you are a bald man you need them to prevent sunburn.

Lyd and I have taken to wearing Lycra Bathing Caps from Nike or TYR (not the nasty Latex kind), just to keep our mask straps from pulling all our hair out. Can you fit large vollumes of hair under these attractive Dee-Rags?

Too bad you weren't a tad closer. My machine does monograms, and would have been glad to run a few through.

The US (or Canuckian) Postal Service. Dee could always send them to you for monograming... just a thought (NOT my strong area, is it).

BTW, I think I was THE very first to place an order with Dee... :tease:

Cool, I could set up an international business! Ah but, I wouldn't want it to interfere with diving....

I think I know someone who could do the monogramming much cheeper. And he's on this board.

Dee, send "Randyjoy" a PM. He's up here near me and a member of the TSDT (you just haven't met him yet).

Does yours do the big monograms? My machine does it but the biggest letters are still too small. To look really good, it needs to be done with an embroidery machine with the proper backing, stretching, etc. that most home machines make a pain to do.

Thanks for your offer but maybe I'll contact RandyJoy and see what he's got to offer.

If you just need a mask strap that won't pull your hair, you might try a Slap Strap. (http://www.innovativescuba.com/Product_Straps.htm) Made of neoprene, it slides easily over your hair. It's width comfortably fits the shape of your head. There are several styles but the one I like uses velcro adjustable straps for easy fitting.

To answer your question, you can put your hair under a Dee-Rag. I don't know about "large volumes" of hair, since no one around here has any!

My machine does two sizes I believe 2 - 2.5 inches then smaller. I've made patches, pockets and a few other small items that I've put monograms on.
Go with RandyJoy - if he/she can't help, for the TSDT, I'd help out as long as there was no rush.

Wow...you have one of THOSE machines... Too cool! I just re-read my response to you and it sounds kinda snotty...I didn't mean it that way.

I'll take this to PM so we don't clutter the board....

From the response so far, can I summise that the majority of folks going to Wreckmania are not interested in the Wreck-Rags? Correct?

Walter already has his, NetDoc has paid for his, and out of the remaining 20 some-odd attendees, only Diving Gal, Herman and Natasha expressed any interest.

The Wreckmania-Rags will cost $15-18, depending if I get the embroidery done and the cost. Payments can be made via check or PayPal and I will deliver them to everyone on the trip.

I doesn't matter to me either way. But if anyone is truly interested, I need to know so that Diving Gal and I can get to work.

Dang I was hoping I could slap you. :D

Just taking a break from the testing... and who said sewing wasn't challenging?

FYI - the first couple bombed..... tension on the bobbin too tight, and caused fabric to "mush up" (that's a very technical sewing term I'll have you know)...

Have adjusted the tension, and added a back stabalizer... so on my day off tomorrow I'll be testing again.

Sort of wish this was cooking something - least I could do would be eatting my efforts.... though I must say I'm having fun.

Oh PLEASE don't slap him.......until the rest of us can watch that is.hehehehe.

Dee, PM me with an address if you want a check soon....Actually, I would like to have it for my June Bonaire trip if that's not asking too much.

But heck, I should be used to it by now!

I just can't see tying that nifty not around my good-sized Hillock of Hair. (Can't really call it a mountain yet - but it's still growing!) So Lyd and I will stick with our cute little Lycra caps. Since they're blue, we look kind of like bald smurfs, but you can pick us out underwater! Thanks anyway, Dee!

Happy Diving,

Scuba-sass :-)

the group picture with all of wearing them... you could always dress up your Smurf disguise with one of these... just order Extra-Smurf!

I really like the fabric. What about making head bands for those that might want to wear them, instead of the full cover the head Dee Rag.
Is that possible? I'm not a bit crafty so I have no idea. I just know I'd rather have a head band type ..you know one like to go around the forehead .. and tie under my hair ..or elastic in the back ..do you know what I mean? Like the ones that say NIKE .. LOL
But if all that is not possible, I still want the Dee Rag, so tell me where to send the $$$$$$$$$

Well, uh..yeah, I can do that. It would be easy to just use the band and not the cap. It would still tie to fit all sizes.

Let me see what I can do....

Sass,

The Dee-Rags are GREAT if you have tons of hair. I have enough hair for about 6 people and I find myself wearing the Dee-Rag I have all the time. In the water or out or the water, they are a great way to keep the massive overload of hair at bay. Definitely worth the money.

"I have enough hair for about 6 people"

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I could say that truthfully as well. These days, it's quite a different story.

All right, we're convinced - sign Lyd and I up for Dee-Rags. We'd hate to be out of place in the group picture!

Oh no Dee! I'm still interested and would like to order. I've been away this week and just saw this thread. But I'm with Sass - if possible, I'd prefer the headband syle. Check your PM.

I think Natasha you need a holiday --- your mind is a wee bit warped for suggesting such things

But other ideas to come to mind....

Well...we could stretch it abit if we used feather boa trim around the aprons. I think the lime green would look lovely. I do have some little Christmas Tree worm shaped foo-foo fluffy balls we could add to the men's Wreckmania rags so they feel included in the style show.

Hey...maybe we could get Walter, Mike or Beast to model some Wreckmania Speedos complete with seafan accessories???

Walter

Speedo modeling is many many years in my past. Perhaps Eddie could assist? Did I ever tell you what Donna told me after that dive in Key Largo back in '99?

How big are the seafans? hehehe (sorry guys.... it's just there are so few guys - if any - that look good in a speedo)

Oh my, take a day off from the boards, and this thread "Goes where no man has gone before..."

Why is it that Male Speedo's are so outrageous, yet I find they're one of the only decent suits out there for us gals? Hmmm, I wonder what devious mind is at work in their design studio....

Just to clarify - Lyd and I will go for the Full Dee-Rag Design, not the headband style.

Happy Diving,

Scuba-sass :-)

Dee,

Sorry for the late reply. Jeff and I will take one Limited Edition Wreckmania Dee-rag a piece. He doesn't know it yet but I am making him wear it. He is a mostly bald guy with sunburn issues so I think it will be perfect for him but he usually doesn't go with anything quite so loud! If he likes it maybe we will order some solid color ones!

Glad to hear from LadyDiver that the "mountains of hair" test has already been done since I also fit in that category.

Well I am off and won't have a chance to check the board until the 12th. If anything Wreckmania urgent comes up between now and then, you guys can email me at agdpsu@yahoo.com
