Walter April 4th, 2002, 08:35 PM Time to start a new thread, I believe. DivingGal April 4th, 2002, 09:57 PM It was getting a trifle long -- and we're still 3 months away! (not that I'm counting the days 95 but who's counting? ):D Barnacle April 5th, 2002, 01:53 PM I have a different show for you!;) Walter----I think you broke me of tattoos permanantly:pirate: Natasha April 5th, 2002, 02:23 PM Will we make it to Wreckmania # 10 before Wreckmania? :gorgeous: scuba-sass April 5th, 2002, 02:33 PM We are a gregarious bunch, aren't we?!? Do you suppose anyone besides us reads all this stuff? Happy Diving! Scuba-sass :-) NINman April 5th, 2002, 02:49 PM I do .. and I am not going ... maybe some time ... but right now all my vacation time has been put in the book. Natasha April 5th, 2002, 04:02 PM Seems Brad is not alone. I checked it out .. 49 people have already viewed this, and 1165 viewed Wreckmania #4. :gorgeous: Hopefully, those that couldn't make Wreckmania I will make Wreckmania II when they view the trip report! SunshineFish April 6th, 2002, 04:44 PM I'm back from my business trip (what a trip!) and catching up on all these posts now. Another amusing story for you guys: Can you believe I actually went to the wrong airport - Newark instead of JFK? :putz: (my worst nightmare yet) And I swear I wasn't drinking this time! Anyway, I explained my situation to the ticket agent at the American check-in counter and was not charged a re-ticketing fee <whew!> and so all turned out okay. :D KC_Scubabunny April 8th, 2002, 06:58 PM Like SunshineFish, I am out of town on business but got someone to let me borrow their computer long enough to email a few friends and check the board. I am glad to hear that Natasha is making progress on the menu. If BBQ is still on the list, I would be glad to make a collection of local sauses my cultural exchange item. For those who don't know it, Kansas City is quite famous for BBQ. Talk to you all soon. I am home on the 12th! :bunny: Heather :bunny: Natasha April 8th, 2002, 07:42 PM I love this "Cultural exchange program" idea. All mothers love educational things, right? Mmm.. 'Kansas City BBQ here we come'. Bringing .. some sauces is a great idea. Now what do I hear from the North and South Carolinas? You guys make a mean BBQ too. We might need some corn bread too. And from New York ... how about a few Nathan's hot dogs stuffed into your carry on, for old MOM. Hehehehe We might have to change the name of this trip to Fatmania! DivingGal April 8th, 2002, 08:20 PM Originally posted by Natasha I love this "Cultural exchange program" idea. All mothers love educational things, right? Mmm.. 'Kansas City BBQ here we come'. If we do all this (and trust me I won't object)-- who's leading the morning exercise routines? And the afternoon ones, and the evening ones.... Maybe not 'Fatmania' but certainly 'Groanmania'... herman April 8th, 2002, 09:53 PM I would be happy to bring some western NC BBQ sauce BUT to do it correctly, it takes a hickory wood fire and hours of slow cooking, anything less just will not do. To us, BBQ is an art form not to be hurried and the use of (gag) gas is strickly forbidden. And to go with it is the slaw...a special blend of ingredients that compliments the smokey flavor of the BBQ.....but no slimy mayo, thats what the infidels in the eastern part of the state use. Oh sorry, did not mean to involve you in the NC BBQ wars, the Civil War may be over but the BBQ war rages on here in NC! (yet has fun about it I think hehehe) Let the food fight begin. I haven't had this much fun since high school!) seaangel April 9th, 2002, 07:41 AM I am still reading the posts, as even though I won't be with you physically in spirit I am still in. Maybe good for Wreckmania II. I am hoping anyway. Besides I want to see how this all turns out. BBQ wars and all. Natasha April 9th, 2002, 11:14 AM Cindy: I have thought about you also in these last few weeks ... you are the first and only child I have lost. But, knowing you are thinking of Wreckmania II makes me smile again! ;) I'm glad you're still following the threads. You can be sure plans for Wreckmania 'Continues', Photomania and Wreckmania II will all be out shortly after Wreckmania I. Wheww that's a lot of manias! Now where's that Wreckmania fashion catalog .. it's around here somewhere ... SunshineFish April 9th, 2002, 11:29 AM Cindy - You'll always be my roomie at heart! :sun: Originally posted by seaangel I am still reading the posts, as even though I won't be with you physically in spirit I am still in. Maybe good for Wreckmania II. I am hoping anyway. Besides I want to see how this all turns out. BBQ wars and all. PS: Everyone duck - food fight! Hey! Watch where you sling that bbq sauce :mean: PPS: Sass- where is that trip report? Dying to hear about life in Tahiti :bounce: DivingGal April 10th, 2002, 07:27 AM I've run the list by my sous-chef (aka my roomie) and Mom (aka Natasha).... I'd like to know the opinions of the wreckmaniacs now: Cold: veggie dip (this is a puree of carrot and spices that makes a spread for crackers - can be prepared ahead, and transported) cheese ball (this is a mixture of cheeses that makes a spread for crackers - can be prepared ahead, and transported) smoked salmon pate/mousse (can be prepared ahead, and transported) pasta salad Hot: stuffed mushroom fiddlehead dip (fiddleheads are a type of fern that are picked when they have just come out of the ground, they taste sort of like asparagus. game saté ( e.g. caribou or buffalo or grouse) ribs(with maple syrup) What I thought of doing was a selection from hot and cold, then with the help from my sous-chef it's a manageable deal. If you want it all --- well I definately need more help to cook for a gang of 20..... So what do you want? And before you ask, I'm driving down with an cooler and not going on a plane. . . DivingGal an aspiring Canadian Chef Dee April 10th, 2002, 10:44 AM Yum-Yum! I have a request.....smoked Salmon. I had a small taste of some thinly sliced on crackers about 3-4 years ago and it was delicious. Down here in the deep south, we're not even sure what a real salmon looks like. The smoked salmon we find in the grocery stores taste like a dead fish that was held over a trash fire for a couple of days! So if it's not too much trouble....... =-x scuba-sass April 10th, 2002, 03:29 PM Diving Gal, All the options sound great! Our only request is that not everything chosen has dairy, which by the options so far, sounds like it won't be a problem. Also - don't knock yourself out over this - we'd much rather have you underwater than slaving over a hot grill (or whatever)! Sunshine, I'm working on it! I've been swamped at work, and actually just had time to get a start on it during my flight to DC this morning. It was such a fabulous trip, it really will take time! Happy Diving, Scuba-sass :-) Natasha April 10th, 2002, 03:29 PM June can vouch for me here .. I'm not just trying to copy Dee.. I picked the salmon when she gave me the choice last night. Mmm Mmm good. Cheeses were my 2nd pick. For the 'hot' choice ..I'd go with the ribs and maple syrup.. I figure this way we can all float during Wreckmania without our BC's! SunshineFish April 10th, 2002, 05:39 PM Originally posted by scuba-sass Sunshine, I'm working on it! I hope I didn't sound like I was trying to rush you. I just thought I missed your report somehow. Please take all the time you need - I will wait patiently. Sandy DivingGal April 10th, 2002, 06:08 PM That's the good thing about making this stuff myself. I know what's going in the 'dishes'. No dairy (except the cheese ball) and no nut products.... I don't want any "extra shows" put on by the wreckmaniacs... I have a feeling the normal antics will be more than I can handle. Natasha April 11th, 2002, 10:48 AM I've been thinking about this part of the trip and I came up with this idea. What do you guys think? Can we make this a B.Y.O.P.? Gotta guess the P DivingGal April 11th, 2002, 11:26 AM Originally posted by Natasha I've been thinking about this part of the trip and I came up with this idea. What do you guys think? Plate was right. Sandy gets the prize ..One trip for two to ... only kidding ... Hehehe Yeah, plate was it. I was thinking we could all pack our own plate and silverware, and just have a big bucket with Dawn liquid(my favorite) and wash, and rinse our stuff, and bring it to each meal. This way we don't have to eat steaks on paper plates. Yuk. Anyone agree? DivingGal April 11th, 2002, 12:22 PM Originally posted by Natasha Awe, you guys are too smart for me. Plate was right. Natasha April 11th, 2002, 12:27 PM No, no, no.. can't bring one for anyone. It's a B.Y.O.P. This way we get to see tableware from all the states, and Canada. Hehehe DivingGal April 11th, 2002, 12:31 PM silly me BYO.... I'm going to the dollar store anyway, that way I'm not going to be worried what happens to my plate or cutlery. Natasha April 11th, 2002, 12:44 PM Dollar Store $$$$$ I was trying to pick between my Rosenthal China and the Mikasa. DivingGal April 11th, 2002, 12:49 PM Heck none of that nonsense, I'm hoping to find something real classic. Oh, how about a selection from Barney, or Scubby Doo, or even Star Wars... hehehehe Dee April 11th, 2002, 01:21 PM My choice will be between Chinet and Dixie! Paper works for us just fine. BUT if you insist, I like DG's Dollar Store idea. Roadrunner, Rocky and Bulwinkle, or maybe Tweetie would be fun! Natasha April 11th, 2002, 01:27 PM Ok I'll go with the Bullwinkle Squirrel ..and you know who ... Maybe I'll bring my GI Joe Scuba lunch box too! NetDoc April 11th, 2002, 02:22 PM a full cook kit with me... especially if I get spankings for it!!! DivingGal April 11th, 2002, 02:29 PM Originally posted by NetDoc a full cook kit with me... especially if I get spankings for it!!! kinky --- but I'm sure it can be arranged. KC_Scubabunny April 11th, 2002, 04:22 PM I can probably help out 6 of my closest Wreckmania friends because I have one of those cool picnic sets of durable plasticware for 8. It has knifes, forks, spoons, plates & cups in cool pastel garden party friendly colors. My real dishes are just fiestaware so that wouldn't be that exciting anyway! Seriously, I am considering mailing some stuff to myself to the hotel so I don't have to haul the BBQ sause and other disposable items down and back. I could put the picnicware in with the stuff I mail. Natasha - Can you check with the people at the hotel and make sure this is okay? I have done it in the past with bulky items like surfboards with good success when I am traveling for the military. :bunny: Heather :bunny: Natasha April 11th, 2002, 04:32 PM No problemo. Mail it attention Stephanie and put "Wreckmania" on the box. She's expecting us..and is trying hard to keep reading our threads ..I think by Wreckmania II she just might become a diver ..Right, Steph? And I know just the plate I want to bring if I can find it - It's partitioned into 3 so I can keep the soggy stuff from the nonsoggy stuff. Or the cold stuff from the hot stuff. scuba-sass April 12th, 2002, 03:57 PM ...is quite relieved! Sorry - no cute characters! Happy Diving, Scuba-sass :-) Natasha April 16th, 2002, 12:23 PM Hi! I would like to have everyone's personal email address. I have quite a few already. Had no idea how tough it is to coordinate these things. Wedding will be happening in JULY. Major conflict with Wreckmania. I'm not going to make it. Sorry Dave, you will need a new roomy, cause I'm getting one. Hope to make another trip, another time. You'll have a GREAT TIME! Big O April 19th, 2002, 05:50 PM Hmmm. SPEEDSTER April 19th, 2002, 07:17 PM but, what is this wreckmania thing? I didn't take the time to go thru what I gather is 4 other threads of the same topic. Is it a group prepping for a big trip? Is anyone else allowed to join in? Thanks, Mike :) herman April 19th, 2002, 08:44 PM Hi Mike, It's a trip to Florida in July by a bunch of board members who are getting together and doing some diving and training. Walter is going to be doing a Wreck Cert class for us. I think there are a couple of spots open. If you are interested, go back and look at the first Wreckmania thread for details and PM Natasha for more info. Big O April 19th, 2002, 11:29 PM Im sending my copys of my Nitrox card to Natasha this weekend. Ill want to dive Nitrox. First, I wan't to appologise if these questions have been answered, but the threads for this trip are so long, I have spent the last hour looking for the answer's and havent found them. They may be out there but I didn't see them. 1) Required equipment, Snorkle. I have it, I hate it, but it will be strapped on If you say so, otherwise, its staying at home. 2) Cylinder sizes available.... Although I am NOT a heavy breather, I have always wanted to climb back aboard with at least 500 psi. I saw that 100 cuft. cylinders are available, but didnt see the price. Should I contact the shop? Ill be happy to, but I I need to know if the shop has the trip under Walter or Wreckmania. 3) I want to do all afternoon dives. In the afternoon dives am I still your "student" or am I a diver responsible for himself and his buddy? Looking, very, very, forward to this trip! Dave KC_Scubabunny April 22nd, 2002, 06:03 PM Well I wanted my fellow Wreckmaniacs to be the first on the scubaboard to know that... Jeff and I are expecting a baby! I talked to Natasha earlier today by telephone and this changes our plans for Wreckmania slightly but we will still be there! Obviously I will miss out of Walter's class which I am very upset about but that is why there will be Wreckmania II. I will be about 4 1/2 months along at that point so hopefully snorkeling will still be an option if you guys aren't horrified at the sight of a pregnant lady in swimwear. Feel free to PM me your best pregnancy/parenting advice. We are new to this and could use all the help we can get! :bunny: Heather :bunny: NetDoc April 22nd, 2002, 06:27 PM Free Willy??? Sorry, just had to go there, didn't I??? Walter April 22nd, 2002, 06:28 PM Heather, That wasn't what I meant when I said it's time to start a new thread. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! DivingGal April 22nd, 2002, 06:43 PM Heather Congratulations to you and Jeff... Not to worry about getting in the water with the rest of us I don't think you can scare anything - that we haven't already sent hiding.. Natasha April 22nd, 2002, 08:14 PM Congrats again! I'm happy and teary at the same time. This means I'll be a Grandma at 43! Wow a vampy grandma. .Just what every kid wants! :jessica: Dee April 22nd, 2002, 11:04 PM Congratulations to you and Jeff! I hope you won't be offended if I keep a healthy distance from you now. At 48 years young, I don't want to take any chances with pregnancy...even by osmosis! :D Seriously, I'm glad you're still coming along. It takes alot to offend this crowd. We're letting Pete come along, aren't we? :out: Natasha April 22nd, 2002, 11:09 PM Sorry to change the subject. Walter: Can you scroll up and help Dave with his questions. He asked me, and I asked him to ask you. Hehehe Also, Mike : Yes we would like to consider you for a wreckmaniac. Tell us your favorite food and why.. LoL Walter April 22nd, 2002, 11:42 PM "1) Required equipment, Snorkle. I have it, I hate it, but it will be strapped on If you say so, otherwise, its staying at home." Bring it. It is required for classes. I don't wear mine unless I'm teaching, but standards require it. "2) Cylinder sizes available.... Only one of those trips will you be a student. On the other trip you'll be responsible for yourself. Swamp Rat April 23rd, 2002, 08:22 AM KC-Scubabunny, Congradulations glad to hear it. Swamp Rat May 15th, 2002, 03:42 PM Well, guys a I'm way depressed. It looks like I'm not going to be able to make the trip. They are sending me out from July 7th to July 31st. Made the plane reservation. Lets hope something changes. :( Maybe I can get fired. :) no not a good idea like eating and having a warm place to sleep. Man, I was just trying to think of what would be the biggest disapointment and Thought of, not getting to met Herman, Not getting wreck certified, Not being able to say I was on the first wreckmanina, not having Sunshine fish touch it (the under water metal detector that is), The waste of money for the trip, the waste of money for the reel (I will use it to find my way to the living room couch and bed I suppose), or not meeting everyone here that I've enjoyed typing with and reading there post, or eating all that fine food Natasha is going to be fixen (especially for a single guy). The list just goes on and on. :( I've know for about a week now and was hoping for a schedule change but when they say make plane reservations it normally does not change. herman May 15th, 2002, 03:49 PM Sorry you can't make it Rat. :( Tell you what, I will take lots of pictures and after we get back I have you (and the misses?)down to the beach house. Southport is not too far away from you. Shoot, if the water will co-operate we can take the boat off shore and do some diving on our own. That's about the best I can do. Natasha May 15th, 2002, 05:21 PM So sorry you won't be able to make it, Keith. I will send your refund check out prompty. Heather, Cindy, and Bill can vouch for me on that. I will give anyone else an extra week if you need to cancel. So it's been extended to May 22nd. After that I will begin to pay out, and everything will be non refundable. Thanks! PS Bob and Dave can now share, in place of Keith and Bob sharing. This gives us one empty room to still fill for Wreckmania. Swamp Rat May 16th, 2002, 08:19 AM Herman, Would love to but... the way things look my off time is going to be very limited but. PLEASE CHECK I just might be able to make it. Thanks. Natasha, Thanks I thought I was past the dead line already and I would just get a $600 T-shirt. I aprreciate you doing this and I hate putting you through the trouble. Thanks. I really am bummed over this. I was looking so forward to it. Finally getting out diving in water you can see more than 10ft would have been FUN and with the Bunch that is going would have made it GREAT. Dee May 17th, 2002, 12:13 AM Sadly, Beast and I are going to have to drop out of Wreckmania, too. Because of offshore contracts, his job can't guarantee his vacation time. I considered going without him but although I'll really miss seeing old friends and meeting new ones, I'd rather stay home with daBeast. I'll be contacting those of you who have ordered Wreckmania Dee-Rags to get your addresses so I can mail them directly to you. If anyone else would like to order one, just contact me via PM and let me know. This is going to be a fantastic trip, ya'll have a blast! herman May 17th, 2002, 07:51 AM Really sorry to hear this Dee, I was looking forward to meeting you. ;-0 Maybe next year. DivingGal May 17th, 2002, 08:01 AM As Herman said, I was looking forward to meeting you and "da beast". scuba-sass May 17th, 2002, 08:15 AM Oh, well - maybe next year... Happy Diving, Scuba-sass :-) SunshineFish May 17th, 2002, 08:58 PM Keith, Dee, and Beast - I am so sad to hear that you will not be joining us for Wreckmania. :( Your presence will be missed as you all already know. Maybe some grand miracle will happen and your schedules will work out for Wreckmania? (fingers crossed) Sandy DivingGal May 17th, 2002, 09:31 PM Sure I understand the reasons for SwampRat and Dee cancelling out, legit reasons. The question is who can come out and play with us? It seems to me that Iguana Don has gone and played with the Texans, seems to me he's a likely candidate. Or one of the mysterious members we'd all like to get to know :tease: I'm sure Natasha still has at least one more room..... Natasha May 19th, 2002, 09:48 PM We now have three rooms we can offer for Wreckmania. I hope there will be 6 more new people to fill them! The prices are 570.98 on one room, and 592.98 on the other rooms. These prices are based on a share. One room has a king bed, and the other two have two double beds in them. If anyone has more friends that wanted to come and thought the rooms were gone, please inform them of the new update. THANKS! The resort wants us to fill Wreckmania! SunshineFish May 22nd, 2002, 10:23 PM I gave the directions for making a rattler (gosh that seems so long ago...like Wreckmania thread #2) to my home-improvement-dad and he put one together for me! We just need to put the finishing touches (glue) on it. Just 2 questions: 1) would the marbles break after being shaken up too much? Should I use something less fragile - like ball bearings? 2) how long should the pvc pipe be? I think he cut mine too long SF Swamp Rat May 23rd, 2002, 08:07 AM Hey Sunshine, Tell you the truth, If you brake those marbles trying to get someones attention. I think you got bigger problems. :D I would make it 4-6" long. I miss you guys. I want to go!;-0 Dee May 29th, 2002, 12:58 PM Originally posted by SunshineFish I gave the directions for making a rattler (gosh that seems so long ago...like Wreckmania thread #2) to my home-improvement-dad and he put one together for me! In the beginning, I had one of those rattle things. But it became just something else to keep up with and to hang on my BC. Now I use a large brass clip and just tap my tank with it. The metal to metal makes a distinctive sound and it's small enough to be out of the way when not in use. I keep it clipped to a D-ring on the right waist area. livestodive June 11th, 2002, 12:56 PM Has there been any word on the tanks and sizes that will be available? thanks Charlie DivingGal June 17th, 2002, 12:57 PM Hey gang do you realize that in 32 days we will be meeting in Deerfield beach for Wreckmania? I am soooooo ready for this! I spent the weekend in lovely 50-60F water (no biggie here) so I am looking forward to warmer water --- well actually what I'm really looking forward to is not putting on a dry suit or a 6.5ml suit! Oh yeah and meeting "the gang" too. You all ready for some Canuck style cooking on Friday night? herman June 17th, 2002, 05:07 PM Is the moose going to be BBQed or fried? SunshineFish June 17th, 2002, 08:33 PM :bounce: I wish I didn't have to work so I could stay longer. :( DivingGal June 17th, 2002, 08:35 PM Originally posted by herman Is the moose going to be BBQed or fried? Moose was never on the menu.... but you bring it, I'll cook it! (Though I had thought about it, I couldn't find it available at the local game farm) The "menu" is being tailored to accommodate my traveling (don't worry it's coming down frozen, in a cooler packed with ice packs. I don't think anything is to unusual. I've made sure that there is no nuts, and the one thing with dairy is a cheese ball -- 'cause I don't intend to have any of the wreckmaniacs provide any extra enterainment! SunshineFish June 17th, 2002, 08:42 PM Originally posted by DivingGal Moose was never on the menu.... but you bring it, I'll cook it! I've never had moose. Hm... :lunch: I am looking forward to the fiddleheads. I think I may have had some the other day at dinner b/c no one could identify the veggie that was with my entree and it tasted like asparagus. In Maine last month, there was a huge sign in a market window that read, "Fiddleheads are in!" In a poll of 20+ people, "Do you know what Fiddleheads are?" I got responses ranging from "like a dipstick?" to "concert groupie." DivingGal June 17th, 2002, 09:03 PM Originally posted by SunshineFish I've never had moose. Most of the "stuff" (such a technical term) is already in the freezer, just waiting for me to pack and go. I judy have to hold off the temptation to snack on anything. Natasha June 18th, 2002, 10:43 AM Wreckmania T shirts will be back from the printer on June 24th! I'm really happy with what we ended up with. We spent a bit more money then I planned, but I think it will be worth it. They are a heather gray color with a wreck looking anchor on the chest, in blues, and gray. I also got the Bonaire T shirts ordered so the 5 of us going on the Bonaire trip in September, can show those off too! Hehehe. I ordered more shirts then people for both trips, so that more people can still join either trip! :sunny: scuba-sass June 18th, 2002, 01:05 PM You're the best, Mom! :-) Natasha June 19th, 2002, 09:33 AM Yes, we are finally at the 30 day count down to Wreckmania.. the trip of the year.. Hehehe Let's start a new thread with all the final things we need to bring ..and also hear what Walter needs from us. Look for the new thread .. and be sure to sign in. Count Down to Wreckmania!
