I'm back from my business trip (what a trip!) and catching up on all these posts now.

Another amusing story for you guys: Can you believe I actually went to the wrong airport - Newark instead of JFK? :putz: (my worst nightmare yet) And I swear I wasn't drinking this time! Anyway, I explained my situation to the ticket agent at the American check-in counter and was not charged a re-ticketing fee <whew!> and so all turned out okay. :D

I am glad to hear that Natasha is making progress on the menu. If BBQ is still on the list, I would be glad to make a collection of local sauses my cultural exchange item. For those who don't know it, Kansas City is quite famous for BBQ.

I would be happy to bring some western NC BBQ sauce BUT to do it correctly, it takes a hickory wood fire and hours of slow cooking, anything less just will not do. To us, BBQ is an art form not to be hurried and the use of (gag) gas is strickly forbidden. And to go with it is the slaw...a special blend of ingredients that compliments the smokey flavor of the BBQ.....but no slimy mayo, thats what the infidels in the eastern part of the state use. Oh sorry, did not mean to involve you in the NC BBQ wars, the Civil War may be over but the BBQ war rages on here in NC!

I've run the list by my sous-chef (aka my roomie) and Mom (aka Natasha).... I'd like to know the opinions of the wreckmaniacs now:

Cold: veggie dip (this is a puree of carrot and spices that makes a spread for crackers - can be prepared ahead, and transported)
cheese ball (this is a mixture of cheeses that makes a spread for crackers - can be prepared ahead, and transported)
smoked salmon pate/mousse (can be prepared ahead, and transported)
pasta salad

Hot: stuffed mushroom
fiddlehead dip (fiddleheads are a type of fern that are picked when they have just come out of the ground, they taste sort of like asparagus.
game saté ( e.g. caribou or buffalo or grouse)
ribs(with maple syrup)

What I thought of doing was a selection from hot and cold, then with the help from my sous-chef it's a manageable deal. If you want it all --- well I definately need more help to cook for a gang of 20.....

So what do you want?

And before you ask, I'm driving down with an cooler and not going on a plane. . .

Yum-Yum! I have a request.....smoked Salmon. I had a small taste of some thinly sliced on crackers about 3-4 years ago and it was delicious. Down here in the deep south, we're not even sure what a real salmon looks like. The smoked salmon we find in the grocery stores taste like a dead fish that was held over a trash fire for a couple of days!

So if it's not too much trouble....... =-x

All the options sound great! Our only request is that not everything chosen has dairy, which by the options so far, sounds like it won't be a problem. Also - don't knock yourself out over this - we'd much rather have you underwater than slaving over a hot grill (or whatever)!

Yeah, plate was it. I was thinking we could all pack our own plate and silverware, and just have a big bucket with Dawn liquid(my favorite) and wash, and rinse our stuff, and bring it to each meal.
This way we don't have to eat steaks on paper plates. Yuk.

I can probably help out 6 of my closest Wreckmania friends because I have one of those cool picnic sets of durable plasticware for 8. It has knifes, forks, spoons, plates & cups in cool pastel garden party friendly colors. My real dishes are just fiestaware so that wouldn't be that exciting anyway!

Seriously, I am considering mailing some stuff to myself to the hotel so I don't have to haul the BBQ sause and other disposable items down and back. I could put the picnicware in with the stuff I mail.

Natasha - Can you check with the people at the hotel and make sure this is okay? I have done it in the past with bulky items like surfboards with good success when I am traveling for the military.

Hi Mike,

It's a trip to Florida in July by a bunch of board members who are getting together and doing some diving and training. Walter is going to be doing a Wreck Cert class for us. I think there are a couple of spots open. If you are interested, go back and look at the first Wreckmania thread for details and PM Natasha for more info.

Im sending my copys of my Nitrox card to Natasha this weekend. Ill want to dive Nitrox.

First, I wan't to appologise if these questions have been answered, but the threads for this trip are so long, I have spent the last hour looking for the answer's and havent found them. They may be out there but I didn't see them.

1) Required equipment, Snorkle. I have it, I hate it, but it will be strapped on If you say so, otherwise, its staying at home.

2) Cylinder sizes available.... Although I am NOT a heavy breather, I have always wanted to climb back aboard with at least 500 psi. I saw that 100 cuft. cylinders are available, but didnt see the price. Should I contact the shop? Ill be happy to, but I I need to know if the shop has the trip under Walter or Wreckmania.

3) I want to do all afternoon dives. In the afternoon dives am I still your "student" or am I a diver responsible for himself and his buddy?

Looking, very, very, forward to this trip!

Well I wanted my fellow Wreckmaniacs to be the first on the scubaboard to know that...

Jeff and I are expecting a baby!

I talked to Natasha earlier today by telephone and this changes our plans for Wreckmania slightly but we will still be there!

Obviously I will miss out of Walter's class which I am very upset about but that is why there will be Wreckmania II. I will be about 4 1/2 months along at that point so hopefully snorkeling will still be an option if you guys aren't horrified at the sight of a pregnant lady in swimwear.

Feel free to PM me your best pregnancy/parenting advice. We are new to this and could use all the help we can get!

Bring it. It is required for classes. I don't wear mine unless I'm teaching, but standards require it.

The class will be split into morning and afternoon dives. Everyone is welcome to dive both. Only one of those trips will you be a student. On the other trip you'll be responsible for yourself.

All we have to climb down here is trees in my neck of the woods. Climbing is cool, its that falling part that not so swift.
I got my Reel!!! Tied it to my front door knob and use it to find my way to the kitchen then back to the bed room and even had enough to run to the out house. You have to be carefull in the cross over from kitchen to front door. Caught my fin and about squashed Sooty the Guinea Pig.

Well, guys a I'm way depressed. It looks like I'm not going to be able to make the trip. They are sending me out from July 7th to July 31st. Made the plane reservation. Lets hope something changes. :( Maybe I can get fired. :) :eek: no not a good idea like eating and having a warm place to sleep.
Man, I was just trying to think of what would be the biggest disapointment and Thought of, not getting to met Herman, Not getting wreck certified, Not being able to say I was on the first wreckmanina, not having Sunshine fish touch it (the under water metal detector that is), The waste of money for the trip, the waste of money for the reel (I will use it to find my way to the living room couch and bed I suppose), or not meeting everyone here that I've enjoyed typing with and reading there post, or eating all that fine food Natasha is going to be fixen (especially for a single guy). The list just goes on and on. :(
I've know for about a week now and was hoping for a schedule change but when they say make plane reservations it normally does not change.

I really am bummed over this. I was looking so forward to it. Finally getting out diving in water you can see more than 10ft would have been FUN and with the Bunch that is going would have made it GREAT.

Sadly, Beast and I are going to have to drop out of Wreckmania, too. Because of offshore contracts, his job can't guarantee his vacation time. I considered going without him but although I'll really miss seeing old friends and meeting new ones, I'd rather stay home with daBeast.

I'll be contacting those of you who have ordered Wreckmania Dee-Rags to get your addresses so I can mail them directly to you. If anyone else would like to order one, just contact me via PM and let me know.

This is going to be a fantastic trip, ya'll have a blast!

The prices are 570.98 on one room, and 592.98 on the other rooms.
These prices are based on a share. One room has a king bed, and the other two have two double beds in them.

I gave the directions for making a rattler (gosh that seems so long ago...like Wreckmania thread #2) to my home-improvement-dad and he put one together for me! We just need to put the finishing touches (glue) on it.

Just 2 questions:

1) would the marbles break after being shaken up too much? Should I use something less fragile - like ball bearings?

2) how long should the pvc pipe be? I think he cut mine too long

Have you thought about something alot simpler, like a brass clip?
In the beginning, I had one of those rattle things. But it became just something else to keep up with and to hang on my BC.

Now I use a large brass clip and just tap my tank with it. The metal to metal makes a distinctive sound and it's small enough to be out of the way when not in use. I keep it clipped to a D-ring on the right waist area.

Hey gang do you realize that in 32 days we will be meeting in Deerfield beach for Wreckmania?

I am soooooo ready for this! I spent the weekend in lovely 50-60F water (no biggie here) so I am looking forward to warmer water --- well actually what I'm really looking forward to is not putting on a dry suit or a 6.5ml suit! Oh yeah and meeting "the gang" too.

Moose was never on the menu.... but you bring it, I'll cook it! (Though I had thought about it, I couldn't find it available at the local game farm)

The "menu" is being tailored to accommodate my traveling (don't worry it's coming down frozen, in a cooler packed with ice packs. I don't think anything is to unusual.

I've made sure that there is no nuts, and the one thing with dairy is a cheese ball -- 'cause I don't intend to have any of the wreckmaniacs provide any extra enterainment!

I am looking forward to the fiddleheads. I think I may have had some the other day at dinner b/c no one could identify the veggie that was with my entree and it tasted like asparagus. In Maine last month, there was a huge sign in a market window that read, "Fiddleheads are in!" In a poll of 20+ people, "Do you know what Fiddleheads are?" I got responses ranging from "like a dipstick?" to "concert groupie."

Wreckmania T shirts will be back from the printer on June 24th!
I'm really happy with what we ended up with. We spent a bit more money then I planned, but I think it will be worth it.
They are a heather gray color with a wreck looking anchor on the chest, in blues, and gray.
I also got the Bonaire T shirts ordered so the 5 of us going on the Bonaire trip in September, can show those off too! Hehehe.
I ordered more shirts then people for both trips, so that more people can still join either trip!
