Help me choose a BCD

Hi, I need to choose a BCD. I'm not after top of the range, it just has to be durable, comfortable and practical. Doesn't need 1000 pocked at 600 D-rings, just something simple. What do the dive shops use, I presume they use fairly durable BCDs as they get used a lot. Please don't try to sell me on any other technology like wings or anything. I am after a jacket style BCD.

How about a back inflate BCD? Very stable, works just like a jacket with more stability (eg. Mares Dragonfly).

A lot of Dive Shops seem to rent ScubaPro gear. Maybe Classics? Most rent some sort of pretty low end standard stab jacket. You may want to look for a deal where rental gear is getting sold. My LDS currently is selling stab jackets that were new in April for $150.

Check out www.triple-l.biz if money is a concern. Fairly inexpensive BCs that most of the folks on this board like (though I still haven't gotten one).

My first choice is the OMS IQ Pack with backplate insert and 32 lb. travel wing for single tanks/recreational use. For a simple BCD, the rear inflate Scubapro Nighthawk is the most comfortable I have ever used in 10 years. Much like wearing a comfortable jacket with no chest squeeze and it has 45 lbs. of lift, trim pockets and is very stable on the surface and easy to dive with. I like both of them so much I kept both.

The choice is very personal, depending on your diving needs and local diving environment. Choose whatever is safe, fits good, feels good, and has the minimum features you want.

I used to use a SP Knighthawk and switched to an OMS bp/wing setup. If you're really wanting a jacket style bc, I would suggest the scubapro classic. Their stuff is finished the best, ie. the rolled neoprene neck trim and double stitching...etc. my 2 cents
