Is There Any Diving OTampa - Florida?

Hi There,

Thinking of getting off Cayman in Jan 05 for a break after the rigours of Ivan, is there nay diving off Tampa?

heythere- well yes and no- ie , yes there is, but no I wouldn't recommend it!!
I lived in tampa for 8 years and only did my check out dives there- was not much impressed. There are some nice wrecks deeper and further out in the gulf, so if you dont mind a longer boat ride, it can be good, and aparently good spearfishing, although I don't indulge in that. Not great vis or spectacular stuff though. Ok if you just want to get a bit wet. It will probably be a bit of a shock compared to Caymans!!

your best bet would be anywhere in Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood for beach diving and or lots of good boat operations

Thanks for the advice, i think by all accounts i will give it a miss, and stick to the theme parks! Munkispank (!) Where abouts in the UK are you from?

Here is a charter in Clearwater I recommend Sea Fox Charters . You can contact Calypso Divers in Tampa for local info.

For something out of the ordinary you may want to think about making a 2 hour trip east to Orlando and check out Disney Epcot's Dive Quest.

Or you could dive the Florida Aquarium. They have a shark dive there, too, and it's right there in Tampa.
