I saw one review of Salvo 21W HID light. Any thoughts ? Any additional data (focusable beam ?) that is not specified at his web site ?
Also, any reviews and recommendation of other HID lights are wellcomed (10W, 18W, 21W, Halcyon, Terkel, DiveRite).
TIA

Kidding about what? Salvo lights? or a 21w HID? Both are true. I would definately recommend anything from Barry...he developed the Halcyon lights and is an independent. Plus, the reviews of his lights are great

Well, that's certainly helpful Nova. :06:
Monk - what Novadiver may or may not be referring to is that Barry (the owner of Salvo Diving) spent some time in custody and (I believe) was charged with posession of stolen goods, including many thousands of dollars of Halcyon stuff. Of course, none of this has been proven in a court of law yet, but the concern is that you may (and I repeat, MAY) recieve what are in fact stolen goods if you order from Salvo. That's assuming they're still filling orders.
As to other HID reviews, the subject comes up quite often. The search function will most likely reveal anything specific you're looking for.

So In other words...the Salvo Light and the Halcyon light might just be 100% the same :D

oh for god's sake. Barrry's premises have been thoroughly raided by halcyon and police and anything looking vaguely like a halycon product confiscated/ The 21 watt is a brand new product and halcyon doesnt even make one. SO worries abvout recieving stolen goods are probably overstated/
the 21w att is a real kick *** bulb almost indestructable though a little less effiecnt and replacemnt bulbs are much cheaper. I think it is gong to give Welchallen a run for their money Dive right is using it too.

I would think that, at this point, if there were any possibility that the goods were stolen he would be legally restricted from selling them pending the outcome of the trial.

Ditto on laying off the guy - obviously he can't post anything on a public forum in his defence because of the charges laid, but one version of the story I heard is that the "stolen goods" was stuff he was owed money for. Legal to walk out the door with? Probably not. But for goodness sake wait until there's a bloody trial before trashing him further. Enough has been said on the subject. Think before you post - if he's found to be in the clear, I would hate to have my name associated with what would amount to slander available on the web for anyone to read.

I agree with you Ben, but don't know if I'd feel comfortable with buying something from him over another brand at this point.

No slander here. When all of this is cleared up, salvo will have my business.

Obviously I live far away from states, so I'm not informed.
Regarding other HID reviews, maybe it looks that this subject if often but I hardly found two or three reviews.

The more I look the more I think about DiveRite. 10W or 21W ? Slim or Wreck canister ?
At the moment I don't need 4 hours burn time but who knows. Help me with your thoughts.

Hacing had a 10W light for about 2.5 years, I'm looking to move up to a 18/21W in the next 12 months. If you've got the money now for the larger light, go for it, instead of having to upgrade later.

When all of this is cleared up, salvo will have my business. For what its worth, I ordered a spool and a stage kit from Barry after the arrest. Both arrived promptly, and are fine products at a great price.

As I wrote in earlier post, it only looked like the were many reviews on HID lights. Except one or two replies about HID lights this thread turned to discussion about Barry. No real review on Salvo light. Sorry, but one would expect better result in DIR forum.

Hi Monkseal
I live in the UK and have just recieved a 21w HID 9amp version from Barry and it is absolutely fantastic.
It arrived within 5 days of ordering it and when I opened the package I was delighted to find that it is a precision built piece of equipment.
It arrived with an extended light shroud as standard (reduces scatter and gives a tighter light sabre type beam) A wider goodman handle for cold water diving (My hand with 5mm glove now fit perfectly, whereas I could only force the fingers into my old Pro 6 handle)
It has large industrial looking silver glands with robotic umbilical cable connecting head and cannister (looks great) Even the latches have safety factors built in, i.e. you have to hold down a lever before you can pop the latch up (removing the danger of accidental flooding due to loose lids during a dive)
The light head itself is beautifully engraved with the SALVO logo and the whole packack looks and feels class.
I wired Barry the money on Monday morning and he emailed me the tracking number in the afternoon, 5 days later it arrived.
If you do intend to order then don't use the online ordering as the shipping is expensive, contact Barry directly as he now uses a different courier at a greatly reduced cost.
I cannot recommend this guy highly enough, his service is excellent, his response times to questions via via email are almost immediate and if you ring him directly you'll feel that you're talking to a long lost family member.. a more friendly guy you'll have difficulty meeting.
If you would like anymore info or you want to see some close up pictures etc then contact me via email.
HTH's
Best regards

Davey, thanks for this great review but unfortunatelly I've already ordered DiveRite 21W HID (due to no real Salvo review). What are the physical dimensions of canister and what was the price of complete system ?

Monkseal,
I also bought a 21W from Barry and have nothing but good things to say. I had an email and a tracking number within minutes of my order. Light arrived a few days later and it is sweet.
To answer your questions, the 9 amp canister is 10 3/4 inches long with a 2 3/4 inch diameter and costs $999.99 + shipping.
