It is possible that a small group of Texas dives may trek by car to the panhandle of Florida to try out the springs in Jan. 05. Outside of Vortex Springs which others in that area would you recommend,,,,as far west in the panhandle as possible because of the drive and time factor. THANKS

THere isnt much up there that isnt restricted to cave diving. Your only other option is Morrison Spring,, which is on the other side of i-10 from vortex. Cypress Spring is just east of Morrison, but is closed and only accessible by canoe.

Thanks for this info.,,,it helps out.

Cypress Spring isn't much of a dive - but damn, it is gorgeous - worth the hassle if natural settings work for you. Morrison was probably awesome before they dynamited the main cavern almost 40 years ago, but it's a down-and-upper - plus you have to watch out for boats now for some reports I've seen. You Texas guys bored with the Flower Gardens already?

Yeah, to be honest, I like the cavern at Morrison more-so than I like the caverns on the headspring at Ginnie(I liked Ginnie overall more because there are more springs readily available).

Morrison is great, free, and it has easy access. Bring a dive flag for sure. http://www.suprbugman.com/gallery/album01?page=2 <-- You can find a bunch of pictures from some of my dives at Morrison here.

Morrison seems to get most peoples votes for the best spring around here. The flooding is its worst drawback. Vortex is an option, it can get boring as far as the dive and crazy as far as the local campers go. I'm glad Vortex is there when all else fails and gladly support it with a few dives a year - mostly in the winter.
