Will I get devoured by "no-see-ums" if I want to lie on the beach? What are the water and air temps at this time of year?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me some info.

Just returned a couple of weeks ago.

Yes...no-see-ums are a problem; take a DEET product and you will be fine (not the greatest for the ocean though). Some people swore by a product called Cactus Juice, but it was out of stock at the time.

Water was 80
Air was 80-90
There were passing showers on a couple of days, but they would only last for a few minutes.

Have a wonderful time!! You will love Roatan!

By all means use something to fend off the little buggers. We use Cactus Juice and it works well for us. We use the spray and the sun skin outdoor protectant it has sun block spf 20 good to wear while sunbathing.

They seem to be the worst in early evening and when the wind is not blowing.

What I really meant to ask was:

Does being in the sand on the beach make me more prone to being biten by "no-see-ums"? Are they more prevalent in the sand? If so, I'll just hang out by the pool. I want to limit my exposure to them as much as possible. I plan on using deet regardless.

Thanks for all your replies.

Yes being in the sand you are more likely to get bit by them. The no-see-ums are actually sand flies. Here is an article from Undercurrent http://www.undercurrent.org/UCnow/articles/NoCM200001.shtml I think it use the most extreme cases in this article. They don't bother me that much and I have been going there for years just use repellent
