Deciding to go to Roatan was easy, but now we can't decide which resort would be best for us. What are the differences in location? Does the diving at some of the more rustic resorts make up for the lack of creature comforts(ie:AC, TV,Beach, ect.) Just how bad are all of those stairs at Anthony's Key Resort? We would like a place with nice shore diving/snorkeling when we're not on a boat diving, but hanging out on a beach would be nice too. And we can't forget about the food.So far I've looked at AKR, CoCo View, and Fantasy Island Resorts. I know there are lots of Roatan divers out there so please help us decide! Thanks!! :06:

CoCoView...it's amazing!

We just got back from Fantasy Island on Sat. It was perfectly fine.we enjoyed our stay. It is not the newest place on earth but it had everything we needed. Our rooms were in a great spot, and the view was super too.

We just went to Roatan last year, and we dove with bananaramadive.com check it out. They are on what is possibly the nicest beach I have ever been on. We traveled to AKR for the dolphin thing, and I noticed that there was no beach. Also, the best shore diving on Roatan is right off the beach there. Notice, that I am saying beach a lot here, because it was so nice, and when spending time out of scuba gear, we hung on the beach. There were venders actually on the beach that you could buy beer from, talk about living. Banana Rama isn't fancy, but it was better than I was expecting. We will definately be going back there. There are several restaraunts that you can walk to from there, in fact, we were barefoot for 8 days straight. Bite on the Beach was our favorite! Awesome food, and the owners are from the states. Ate there almost every night. I can't say enough good things about the location! There is a dock for the water taxi right there also so you can visit the village of West End and do some shopping. We never had a car, and got all over the island very cheaply with Taxi's. The Dive masters we had were Anja and Lieber, a married couple, he is from Cuba, and she is from Germany, and they were amazing at finding even the smallest animals. Sorry to carry on, I will leave this at that, you can contact me privately for more info, I would be more than happy to share with you!

I went to Coco view last december and had a great time. It was very laid back, the diving was great and the staff was great as well. It was too comfortable to call it rustic but at the same time it doesnt have a lot of fluff either. If you want casinos and neon and tv's in every room then this isnt the place for you. If you want to relax and dive and forget about life for a week this is a good place to do it.
I can't wait to do a return trip

I appreciate the input. From what I've read so far, I'm leaning toward CoCo.The only kind of night life I care about is the stuff on the reef, so it sounds great.

Yes there are a few of us CCV nuts around. all the rooms now provide a/c although you don't really need it the breeze is so cool.

roatan is famous for it's noseeums so just bring lots of DEET or Cactus Juice whatever your choice is, and apply on a regular basis you will be fine.

The shore diving is the best just ck out their website webcam it will show you the entry area called the Front Yard. http://www.cocoviewresort.com/cam.html

there is not really any beach but you don't need it they have plenty of sundecks around and you can also enjoy the hammocks on the gazebo.

Try Anthoney's Key Resort.

Deciding on going to Roatan was pretty easy, after reading all of the posts about it, but I really could use some info on the different resorts. I know ABOUT the different resorts, or can at least look them up online, but what would really value is the opinion of those that have been there. So far, it seems CoCo View is a popular favorite, but I'd love to hear anyone's input. The diving is the most important consideration, with being able to sleep without roasting or being eaten alive by bugs the second. Beaches are nice, but hey, I live on the West coast of Florida and can get a nice beach anytime. Opinions/Input anyone? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer! :snorkel:
