DIR dictates the use of black or monochromatic gear?

You can use gear of any color you like.

So long as its black. :eyebrow:

We wear black because they don't make any other color that's darker.

No, not at all. I'm about to replace the webbing on a backplate and I'm trying to decide between green and blue...

Black just doesn't get ugly as it fades, and makes it easy to coordinate. that's all.

Johnny-than wears all black because he thinks he can sing like Johnny Cash.

Get red webbing ... over time it fades to a nice shade of pink ... :eyebrow:

You keep talking about pink webbing.

I'm really starting to wonder about you... and Pug and OE2X and all the other PNW divers.

I feel dirty for reading those threads about overboard discharge valve installation now.

No, it isn't true. You can use any color gear you want and dive DIR.

OTOH, GI noted "...brightly-colored gear is like an ugly hooker - might work fine, but you are always embarrassed to be seen with them."

So, if you want to dive in gear that looks like some Smurf vomited rainbow smegma all over it, go for it. But everyone else will smirk and point!

I'm with Doc. Wearing Smurf vomit is below average.

Unless its black.
