I was wondering if the bands that are used on my single backplate can be somehow used to secure doubles by mating them?

If that is the case, then no. Take a look at Highland Millwork's bands. They are the best out there, they are 2" wide and are VERY WELL Made. The site is www.highland-millwork.com Eric scubafinatic May 6th, 2002, 03:41 PM simply a STEEL BAND MADE FOR THE HEALTHWAYS 72'S I HAVE AND THE BACKPLATE they are 1.5 inches wide and made of steel that have a carriage bolt clamping them to the tank and at the same time securing to the lip on the backplate
