I heard that it was a busy weekend

First, a boat "almost" left someone behind.

Then the fatality at Casino Point.

Any thoughts, comments, etc...?

Enlighten us. I haven't heard of either of the events.

From what I read about the fatality, they don't know why he died. I heard they were buddy-breathing, but there didn't seem to be any problems with the buddy-breathing or ascent. Did anyone hear otherwise?

If I was that diver left on the island-time, I would be fuming. I would have confronted the DM and captain immediately, and asked why they left. In addition, I would have posted on boards so everyone knew what happened... I wonder why we haven't heard the other side of the story? I'd like to know what excuse this DM has.

I had read the posts on diver.net, but I couldn't understand why there wasn't more outrage about a diver being left.

IceDiver, what do you think?

On the fatality, we'll have to wait for more info. While any fatality saddens all of us, we as divers need to learn from it. If you look at how cave diving training evolved, the accident analysis done by Sheck Exley is still the foundation of what is being taught today.

As for the incident, the bottom line is we really need to police ourselves. The diving industry has been fairly good at it and for most part kept the government out but if this sort of nonsense continues, the government will step in and who knows what they'll come up with (e.g. the snorkel law in Laguna Beach).
