Hi all--

I'm thinking of planning a trip to Catalina at some point this summer. I'd like to get some diving in, but I'd also like to go with my sister, who doesn't dive. I was thinking that I'd find myself a boat to hook up with while she hangs out, etc. Is this realistic in terms of timing, or are all the boats out there an all-day affair? I'm in NorCal now, and there is plenty of half-day or beach diving, but I've never been diving in Catalina. Also, if you have any recommendations on where to stay if we decide to stay for a night, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
Val

Just a thought....

You should take the Catalina Express and dive at the Avalon Underwater Park... there are a bunch of things that you sister could do (tours, kayak rentals, ect).... If you do a boat dive, there are boats like the "Island Time" that do half day boat trips (2 tank dives) which are always good...

Many options.... Both are great from what I hear... I have only done boat diving there, but am going to avalon/casino point in 2 weeks.... I will definitely post how it was on the april 05 dive review post when we get back.... hope this helps!

Call 310-510-1520 and ask for a Visitor's Guide from the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor's Bureau.

Also check out the catalina.com web site and others. There are a lot of activities (tours, shopping, kayaking, swimming, beaches, etc.) that a non-diver can enjoy while you are diving. The dive park is an easy shore dive and you can interact with your sister on surface intervals.
