At the last meeting some expressed an interest in having a meeting at a pool to brush up on skills and practice with each other before the dive season is in full swing.
I'm pretty sure I can get us in to a pool near the Buffalo Airport on Saturday April 23rd. Cost would be pobably $10 to $12 per diver. We would be sharing the pool with students and would have to avoid interfering with the class.
Anyone Interested??
Or.......Discover Divings Annual Pool Party is this Saturday the 16th. $25 practice skills in the pool or just have fun. Then back to the shop for Pizza, Pop, and Prizes. Some of the prizes this year are: Suunto Gekko Computer, A Dive Light, and Aluminum 80, and more.
Thoughts ???
Or........now that the water is a Balmy 37f we could just meet at Deep Run Park for a get aquainted dive!! :crafty:
Any other Ideas??
PS. How warm does the water have to be for our wetsuit wearing members to join us in openwater??

I'm off so if you can get it together I'll go. I cant go to DD's pool party as I will be working. Why does it seem like I am the only person who works weekends?. Anyway, I'm in for the 23rd. Let us know what you need.

I can't do the 16th or the 23rd. And I'd need warm water to do a dive wet!! At least in the 60's. I hear Roberts Weslyn has a pool we can use.

It was a good time. It was great to get in the water again, even though I was a bit overweighted and my trim was way off. My son had fun in the SASSY unit, but I think it's going to be quite a few years before he'll be ready to really "try" scuba. Dallas and Darryl were great hosts. Other than the "great buffalo wing snafu of 2005" it was a blast. I came close on two of the prizes during the poker game, but alas, it wasn't to be.
I rented a set of Faber 85s and a Dive Rite Classic Wing. Darryl gave me his personal tanks that hadn't even been in water yet. Talk about customer service. DD is a great shop, and I only wish I had found them about 8 months ago....
I signed up for the DUI demo days, looking forward to having a fantastic time with the DD crew!

Hahahahahahahahahahah!!! :)
There are no lines to the helicopter. You have to surface swim or navigate.
I have my students get bearings from land, lining up with the floats for the bus and the plane. Then I have them navigate a circut underwater. Platform to plane to helicopter to bus to platform, Or the other way around.
The helicopter is about 45' but it's suspended in deeper water.

As for the copter, the main part of it is in 40-60' of water, depending on water levels and so forth. It's very easy to find the big pontoons it's hanging from, drop down, then check it out. Swimming away from it in any direction brings you to a line you can follow around to other stuff.
The east end of the quarry is by far the coolest.

Also, we were told we couldn't be out long in the suits. So a swim to the helo and back would have been longer then were allowed to be. I did see the big pontoons it's hanging from, but never got over there to see it.
We did see the ferry, one of the wooden boats and the piper plane. Then it was time to head back cause I didn't have enough weight and was starting to head up. (thanks to Rick's son for UNDER weighting me!)

Let's put it this way... I have a top of the line Andy's DS2 (cordura) that will be there, but I do NOT plan on diving it that weekend unless they are down the Foam Neoprene again. They will be making snowballs in a place FAR below us before I deal with that floaty thing again.
I plan to return the suit when I get back, LOL. Sunday, I adopted the CF200 as my very own for all day and no-one complained until my group started coming in late. Someone said something about how well it fit me and I couldn't get over the compliment. Besides it did fit like a glove :) .

Then you owe it to ourself to give the suits there an honest look. You will love them. If my LDS weren't a dealer in the competition, I would have bought one when looking for a new drysuit this winter.
Like has been said before, I plan to use the suits there. Less wear and tear on mine, LOL. One nice thing, my new suit is a front entry so I should have few problems embarrassing myself trying to get in and out of a "self donning" suit. Last year was downright embarrassing on that front, LOL.

Second that motion,
Oh, and many shops without their own pool DO charge for practice time in a pool. The rate sounds about right for a group to me as if you get enough people, you will be paying about $5.00 an hour or less. Personally, I am a little jealous. My practice time has been in 35-45 degree quarries all winter (and once in an ice-covered backyard pond) without the safety net that a pool offers. Our shop hasn't gotten around to offering pool time this winter. I don't have the time to assist with a full class to get it.
Have fun and enjoy!

I am going diving this weekend if my SI-5 gloves come in the mail this week (I ordered it last Tuesday). It will be my first time trying out my drysuit!

I would, but Rick needs to go into work and rebuild my regulator. :D
I won't get it back until around the 5th, not enough Apeks kits Darryl said.

Seeing as they don't have the parts. Did you ask about a loaner or a rental??
If it will get you in the water, I'm sure I can come up with something!!
You can use my singles regs, I'll dive my doubles!! :)

Sorry about that Heather. The original date when we started talking about this (Apr 23) was good for me. Sadly May 7 is bad. Have to work

I went down to check out the Buffalo Harbor today just to be nosy, pretty rough, pretty scary. 5-6 footers hitting the outer breakwalls. Everyone is rushing to get their boats in though.

Well, you know we're expecting a report. When? where? water temp? what did you see??
If you tell us where you're going before you go, there is the possibility of some of us meeting you!! ;)
How did the gloves work?? I haven't had much luck with drygloves yet.

Dive Report??? Wish I went, Yukoneer is sick with a bad cold... Not a good idea to go diving at all. This Wednesday, I will be out of town to visit my parents in GA and of course, there will be some warm water diving in FL! I will be at Ginnie Springs this coming Saturday. Will 3/2 mm good enough for those who has been there?
I bought an used FLX50/50 drysuit from online. The SI-gloves were too big so I had to replace to smaller size. It was difficult to get SI-gloves out but I looked at this website: http://www.dui-online.com/howto/si-5pages/index.htm and looked through it to see how it really works. It was tough but I made it out. Good luck, TAVI, with your gloves!
