We dove Pleasant on Sunday April 24/05 at Dirty Shirt.
I've never dove the lake when the water level was so high but then I tend to dive later in the year when the water is warmer. We were pleasantly surprised at the conditions even with the rain the night before. Viz was 10-15ft and water temp was 59-60. Depths ranging from 30-50ft. Didnt see anything but the point of the dives was skill practice anyways. I think we'll head back next weekend and take advantage of the great viz.

I'd like to go sometime. I'll want to wait until water is in the 70s though, I only have a 3mm wet suit. Plan to get a dry suit and take the dry suit class soon. Any good dive shops in Northern Phoenix/Scottsdale? I could also use a dive buddy.

I know of two shops in your area. I've only been to Scottsdale Scuba though and it was years ago, so I have no recommendation.

Ultimate Dive/Travel:

IMO the best divestore in town is El Mar in Mesa though. It's just east of the 101 fwy at Broadway. www.elmar.com

Saw you'll be in CR next week, maybe we'll see you at our AZScuba meeting in June. (Although I may be in Andros then)

One of our new members mentioned she was looking for someone to dive with at our March meeting. She's a medical professional and lives in N. Scottsdale. As soon as I remember her name, if she's still looking, I'll put you in contact. Maybe she'll be at the meeting next week and I'll remember who it was.

Of all the things I miss, I miss my mind the most,

Steve

Oasis Divers is a NAUI shop in North Phoenix (Bell Road & 40th Street). http://www.azdivers.com/

Tres Aquas is also on Bell Road, just west of the 51 - I know that they are tied in to some people who dive the lakes, because Dale Noe has invited me to join them for some lake cleanup dives (so far I have declined; the lakes don't appeal to me very much)

Ultimate Dive & Travel is on Hayden Road in northern Scottsdale ( a little bit south of Bell (or Frank Lloyd Wright as they call it on that side of town)

Scottsdale Scuba is under new ownership since just a few months ago, I think. They are in a small shop just north of Shea and a little bit west of Scottsdale Road, in an area of small shops on 71st Place.

I have only dropped in on the new owners at Scottsdale Scuba once as they were just getting set up, and so far all I can say is that they seemed to be very nice and I hope they do well. The other three in the north Scottsale / Phoenix area have all impressed me as very helpful and professional.

I am inclined to favor Oasis as the NAUI shop; Susan Carroll-Hamblen is either the author of the NAUI OW training book or one of the principal authors (I'm not certain of my memory), and I know that Scott Hamblen used to train sheriff's office and other public safety divers in the lakes around Phoenix, so he is very familiar with them (although I have the impression that he doesn't really favor lake diving for himself).
