Went diving in the redondo canyon last night. Finally captured the elusive California Tonguefish on film. You won't find this baby in the Humann book! There is a nice population in the canyon. Also got a pic of the famous giant brown shrimp.

Wow, you guys ran across a great variety of life on that dive! Congrats on snagging the tonguefish. Your pipefish shot is better than any I've managed to get so far.

I wish I could have gone along, but at the moment my lower back is probably worse off than yours -- the doctor this morning said she thinks it's a muscle rather than disc thing, so we'll see what shoveling down muscle relaxants over the next few days does for it ...

Frank,
In the water is were you need to be to make that back better. Just have your dive buddy carry your gear out past the surf zone and put in on and off there. If they put the BC on with the tank on their chest it carries just fine. Of course if a wave zapes them, well at least they have two tanks, but that could get painful.

Seriously, sorry to hear your back is giving you problems. I think about my back every time I put on my gear, and try to watch how I twist and turn with that weight.

Awesome pictures Scott!!! Thanks for sharing with us all. Very cool!

Nice stuff... I should bring my video camera down there, but then I'd break my 36 year celibacy of NOT diving any mainland California sites!

Scott,

It's amazing that I have been there four times now and have not seen that much life. I guess I need to know what to look for! I could have passed up that California Tonguefish without ever seeing it. I did get to see squid eggs last time.

Very nice pictures. I always like to see pictures of the unusual.

This makes it so difficult to not go run and buy a camera and housing! Great shots!
