Try Spearboard. There are some hardcore, bad ***** guys there who know what they're doing. I'm just getting into it myself but can only snorkel due to Belize laws. It's kind of like squirrel hunting. Patience, patience. I jump off the boat in a place where I know there''s fish and just move real slow (stop and wait a lot) and try not to look directly at the fish. Side eye them or they spook. It's a blast. I live for it now. Chumming is my next strategy. But lakes may be tougher with the probable not so good vis. Good luck.
