HI Socal Divers!
There is a great charity that has been started to benefit the son of one of our local longtime divers and pillars in the industry. Ted has been gracious enough to stick this thread to gain maximum exposure and hopefully help to spread the word of INSPIRE HOPE - HELP TRAVIS.
Some of you may know Jocko Robinson and some of you may not, but somehow someway most of the Southern Cal dive facilities and divers have benefited from his over 30 years of industry experience.
The charity is for Travis, Jocko's 19 year old son that was paralyzed from the neck down from a severe spinal cord injury on June 28th, 2003.

He was going to do a belly-flop into a friend's pool in Oregon, but at the last moment he shifted his body into a tuck. It was too late. He entered the water with his neck in the wrong position. It changed his life forever.

Travis is paralyzed from the neck down and is confined to a wheelchair, he requires constant attention. Travis will never be a varsity football player again, or go SCUBA diving with his Dad, but technology and recent new research has given victims of severe spinal cord injuries like Travis, new HOPE.

For over 30 years, Jocko has been helping the SCUBA diving community. Now, it's our turn to help Travis and the Robinson Family. INSPIRE HOPE!

We are asking for your support to help spread the word of HOPE for all spinal cord victims like Travis.

Our goal is to raise over $100,000 in six months for ground-breaking surgery and care that will help to give Travis function of his limbs and give him HOPE again.
We need your Help!

Please visit http://www.helptravis.org for more information about this great cause and special fundraising events to benefit Travis.

Please feel free to contact me at jon@helptravis.org or 310-937-2846.
Sincerely,
Jon Davy

A fundraising event is being planned for Saturday June 25 @ Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes. Malaga Cove is a great dive spot, shallow (<30') with healthy reef structure, kelp and sea life.

DiveVets members will be organising a day of diving fun, with all proceeds going towards the INSPIRE HOPE - HELP TRAVIS FUND . Events include:

Dive Gear Swap Meet!!
BBQ
& Underwater Contests

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. There is a sand beach so bring the whole family. More information will follow.

If you have unused dive gear you would like to donate for the swap meet, please post on the DiveVets Message Board and someone will get in touch with you.

Keep Diving.

Most of you have read on the several boards about Inspiring Hope for Travis. If you have not read anything then read about it and visit the website...helptravis.org. Travis is one of our own and the "Specialty Weekend" is one of many ideas to raise funds. Please come out to Malaga Cove and dive with one of the Specialty classes of just for fun, or even better bring the family and make a day of it. There are many more events to come to raise money for Travis. Remember all of these events are about inspiring hope.

Hi there, it's one of the sirens reporting in on the latest Help Travis event: 7 of us lucky dive girls had a great time escorting our highest-bidding sailor and King for the Day, Don Robarge, on a four-hour tour for our Sailor and Sirens event - the pix we can print from the Island Diver and the afterparty are posted here: http://home.earthlink.net/~raemer/sailor.html . Not just a generous guy, Don was also a great sport about things like having a lot of brightly colored flower decor everywhere, enduring the preplexed gazes of passing boats as we boogied all over the boat to our "special" soundtrack, and as the lone man, never, ever getting to use the changing area/head. Karen Ax, who headed up the event, reports a preliminary count of over $1100 raised yesterday to help Travis get better, with more donations still trickling in. www.helptravis.org

Our next fundraising event is June 25th at Malaga Cove, and if yesterday's dive and debriefing were any guide, we are going to have a GREAT time! Everyone's welcome - this is a family-oriented and fun event - so come to Malaga on June 25th to check out the BBQ, games, undewater poker, specialty classes, and scuba gear swap meet at the first-ever Help Travis - Inspire Hope Dive Festival!!!

THE HELP TRAVIS - INSPIRE HOPE DIVE FESTIVAL (fondly referred to as TravFest) IS TOMORROW!!!!

Really hope y'all can make it to Malaga from 8-2 -
